I know the feeling. I took TONS of the same **** to the dump when I moved. Thought it was all good stuff, until I had to pay to move it.

I seem to have a constant stream from work.

At least I didn’t pay anything for it, so it’s “easy come, easy go”

Cutting and fitting the bow block.

Odd angles and compound curves.

A little bandsaw, a little handsaw.

And a little more fitt’n

In the first pic you can see how much larger it will be.

Fitting these compound angles and curved angles is kinda kicking my ***.

But, I’m almost there.

You're doing great so far. This is the point where my little one-handed Porter-Cable 371 sander comes in handy to fine tune the subtle angle variations and scribe a piece in perfectly.

Riven, It's looking good- You're at the stage where I'd break out the OMT with an 80 grit hard-pad sander to fine-tune the gaps. Toolfool's belt sander would work great, too but it's discontinued...

Thanks guys,

So far I’m liking the stability/ constant angle I get with the disc sander.
Pretty easy to scribe to a line too.

Riv, be careful not to sand past your line with that view of the water right outside your window. Would love to have that view out my window.

Hey Strouty, been awhile.

It’s just a simple tapering jig for the tablesaw.

I needed a couple precise tapers for the bow of the boat.

That's pretty slick. I've never seen one made in that style before. I like the fact that since it's a one time use jig, you have very little time and materials used to make it.

Thanks guys,

Quick, easy, and disposable.

Used a push stick to keep the fingers away from the blade.

I’ll leave the cutting of fingers to my doctor.
I just scheduled a hand surgery for January.

Dupuytren’s Contracture, or Viking’s disease, runs in my family.
I’ve got a couple fingers that are starting to be a problem.

Thanks Jim,

My sister had her’s done a few months back. Over 100 stitches in one palm.

She says it was worth it.

I’m not that bad off. Shouldn’t be a big deal.

Is there even room for 100 stitches on a palm!? :scared:
Hope your surgery goes well. Is that where you can't straighten your finger?
Do you notice how the older we get we know about more and more medical conditions?

Awe, wouldja look at that. My very first breasthook.

Coming together nicely.

Secured into place with Thixo flexible epoxy.

I’ll be adding some silican bronze screws as well.

Still some shaping to be done, so it sheds water.

Keeps my mind off the state of things.

But hey, we survived Friday the 13th, 2020!

Guessing it’s all sunshine and puppy dog breath from here on:)

The Spruce I had resawn and planed ended up
Cupping more than I cared for.

Had to make a hard decision, ended up
Ripping it into three pieces. Glued it all back together, rotating the grain on the center board.

This may well add some dimensional stability to the transom, and alleviate potential cracking. Still a bit disappointing not having it all one piece.

Glued with waterproof polyurethane and a lot of plastic biscuits.

I’m not familiar with the plastic biscuits. What is the advantage? Buried in the joint, not sure I understand how they are better than the pressed wood.

Thanks for posting this interesting project.

That breasthook came out nice Riv.
No doubt the transom will too.

Royce

Thanks Royce,

It’s going to be a challenge pulling it all together.
