@M6Z,

The box looks great!

Have either of you run into situations where you thought "gee, this really needs a higher tooth count"?

Yes. When you put a long extension or breaker bar (18"+), the likelyhood of things around the work area getting in the way can slow down your procedure, or even prevent you from getting the job done because you can engage the next tooth. In general, the longer the ratchet, the higher the toothcount I prefer.

My most recent use of the nbr390h (Ko-ken would've been fine too):

@Reedprince,

Do you have a link to the page? Seems like a pretty broad list of manufacturers. Not bad for starters, but plenty missing!

A couple videos added to my JTS series...in case any one missed it.

Yes, Asahi wrenches again! Nothing really flashy, but I've been happy with their durability and rate of wear, so in my recent tool haul, I got several new wrenches to add to my existing collection. This video covers most of the Asahi tools that I currently own.

Tools featured in this video:
RevoWave series' CL combination wrenches
Lightool series' LOF 45°×7° DBE (double-box wrenches)
Lightool series' LCWU midget combination wrenches
Lightool series' LCW combination wreches
RS curved ring spanner (RS0021)
Catcherball series' AQK ball-ended hex keys (long pattern)

This video features a couple new IPS pliers, along with a couple others that I've had for a number of years. IPS is a very small pliers manufacturer located in Niigata prefecture. It's an 80-year old company running a small operation with just 37 employees.

Tools featured in order of appearance are:

SHP-135 "Soft-Touch Petit" Slip-jointed, non-marring needle-nose pliers with replaceable soft-jaws

SF-165 Spring-loaded, ergo-gripped, slip-jointed combination pliers

HLB-300 "Hyper Long Pliers" Slip-jointed, long-reach, bent-nose pliers
HLS-300 "Hyper Long Pliers" Slip-jointed, long-reach, straight-nose pliers

Now just hold on for a mo....

What’s that gadget?

Is that a hose clamp compressor that fit’s on a 3/8 extension?

I hate those spring hose clamps to remove (but have to admit they work quite well). I’ve been using pliers, but that tool looks like the way to go!

If I ever get back to Japan, I definitely will bring some home.

They are far removed from things that were made in Occupied Japan.

Question about the Koken 3768N hinge handle (or breaker bar, if you prefer.) It's hard to tell from the catalog photo, but does the head have any detents?

(I'm looking for one that has completely smooth travel, even through the center, as a complement to my Wright — which has strong detents.)

Good plan!

Definitely want one of these!

I even like that KTC spinner, though I have others that will have to suffice!

Yes they do, at 0° & 90°.

Ko-ken factory tour. Japanese language, but still interesting to have a flick through for non-Japanese speakers.

I wish Factory Gear added English subtitles to their videos for language challenged tool fans.

Japan is our friends, it just works... my bad. My father was in Japan during nam.... not by choice. But no complaints. Hell he graduated hs in 67. Still alive because he inlisted and was a peeon. He loved the people. I am not meaning any disrespect. He just hated having to enlist. Sorry for the rant.. I respect everyone in the military and would do anything for them... 99% of my family served... sorry just needed to vent..... just awesome tools and he did steal some snapon ratchets and a devilblis paint gun or was given them.... I have them all. He won't talk about it except he learned a lot from the Japanese body work and food. He came from a small town in ohio.

That is a very cool tool. I'd only seen the KTC clamp pliers before.

I recently got one of those KTC pliers.
Personally I find pliers, like slip-joint pliers, gets the job done for maneuvering most spring band clamps. The KTC AE921 comes out only occasionally.

I have the ktc branded version of that clamp. It's ok. It does tend to twist when you are really torqueing it. Think I like the ktc clamp pliers better, they seem to offer better control

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using The Garage Journal mobile app

Agreed. It's happened to me a few occasions. The first time it happened I thought I ruined the tool. All it took was loosening the fasteners on the side rail and it freed up. For an occasional tool, I can live with it. Yup, I prefer the pliers as well.

Thanks. I wonder if it’s the same tool or a knockoff? Most of the Laser stuff is shite.

I’ll try and find one to look at!

That's a good question! I'm gonna look for the KTC product card and look for the COO. KTC doesn't hide COO.
FWIW, KTC released this tool back in 2009.

1/4 drive is P/N 2762
3/8 drive is P/N 3762
both are 300mm long

case use: accessing and working on small worm drive hose clamps (6mm heads)

It's really flexible and doesn't take a lot of torque load before it starts to twist, like shown above in 48548's photo. So, it's only suitable for low torque applications. I've had mine for years, but only used it a few times.

Ko-ken factory tour. Japanese language, but still interesting to have a flick through for non-Japanese speakers.

I wish Factory Gear added English subtitles to their videos for language challenged tool fans.

:rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker:

I was supposed to go this April, in hopes of being the first to get video footage of Ko-ken's factory. :D
I had booked my tickets and hotel stay, but 2020 threw a mad curve ball. :lol:

This literally is the first video footage of Ko-ken's factory, ever!
In the end, Mr. Takanokura, Factory Gear's president, encouraged Ko-ken to create some form of a public tour of the company, and have a hall for showcasing the company's history and accomplishments.

Thanks - that pic really shows the detent. I'm surprised the catalog photos don't.
