I am trying to learn the proper use of tools I have used for years but I am the first to admit I don't know what I'm doing sometimes:headscrat

I have always thought the t-bar and breaker bar have the same use, to break stubborn bolts withouts breaking a ratchet.

Is there a certain time to use each tool?

close to the same job

T bar can be centered so you can 'spin' the thing once the bolt/nut is broken loose

If you put a long enough cheater bar on them they will both break,:lol_hitti I found that out:bounce: there is a thread around here that was addressing the difference. I think someone said that the Tbar was similar use to a speed wrench and not to break fasteners loose. I didn't listen.:headscrat

Also t-bars are meant for a bolt that needs to be balanced. Such as the nut on the shaft of a turbocharger. You want equal force on both sides when removing it. So you don't flex the shaft and possibly bend it.

I still need to get myself a breaker bar. At the moment I still rely on my ratchet's lifetime guarantee to break nuts loose!

With a T-bar and an extension you can make the letter T, cant' do that with a breaker bar, you can make the letter L.

Put some universal joints on that breaker bar and you can also make a "P"

Breaker bar wins!!!!

The T-bar is the least used tool in my socket set. It is a rare application when it is the one to grab instead of a breaker bar, ratchet or speeder. IMHO, they were an attempt to keep the cost down and provide one T-bar instead of a breaker bar and a speeder. Many early tool sets were equipped this way.

I have never owned a "T" handle, as I have never saw the need to have one.

To remove a 'balanced' bolt (a term I have never heard before), is done with an impact.
