Well, lets have some fun! As we are buying tools, we periodically have those special tools which people leave in their toolboxes to help them open the bottle of a cold one at the end of the day!

Post what you found with your purchases!!! (or bought yourself)

I will start with the picture of what I got from several purchases.
The first object does not count - it's a belt buckle

I have Channellock bottle opener tool just like this one, but it has a blue handle and black insert. I got it with a set of Channellock Max Torque screwdrivers from Sam's Club quite a few years ago. Works great every time. I particularly like the steel end cap, but I have yet to use that feature. I don't know if it has a full length internal shank. Lol.

I haven't opened a beer in almost 19 years. But I opened more than my share up until then and I certainly didn't need anything special. Hammer, screwdriver, Bic lighter, trowel......damn near anything.

If someone needed a designated bottle opener, I probably wouldn't have been drinking with them, anyway.

Hell I used to know 3-5 ways to open a beer with a model 1911 colt. Only one or two worked really well and I forgot virtually all of them[emoji53] over time. We never worried much about if it beat up the gun , they all belonged to our Uncle Sam.

i have heard this so many times an i always ask why? you obviously don't drink. i don't know why and don't care. what i don't get is the attitude that if you did drink you probably wouldn't hang around with someone who used a bottle opener.

i mean what's the deal? this is a tool site and it is all about using the right tool and maybe even the best tool for the job.......unless it is a bottle opener. then you are somehow not right if you use one.

i have used many thing to open a bottle. i have also cracked a few tops over the years and that ***** on nice or rare bottle of beer. i guess next time i am sitting out on my screen house or on my deck i should just hammer that top off on the window sill, railing or on the furniture cuz thats the manly thing to do!

edit

i like this analogy. i haven't smoked for 19 years but if i did i sure wouldn't associate with anyone who uses a lighter. they better use matches and not those wussy ones with the striker on the back side. real men would use one wooden match on a box per day and keep lighting one dart to the next all day long. :D

I can never seem to get a Bic lighter to work for that.

It's beefier than a wrench, and could be a real tool for other purposes. 0a737d819bba1f0d5ab7ab3f1c236620.jpgc6ab309379bd0c6479e270a07860b332.jpg

Some self effacy lost in the transfer of ideas, I guess. It was more of a statement about who I was when I drank than about anyone else.

Hi Shelby! I hardly ever post up here, but your title caught my eye at the top of the board when I opened GJ, and it sent me scampering down to the Lugzsonian. :)

Here are a couple of my personal favorites...

attachment.php

Since you're from Massachusetts, I am sure you already know that the one on the top refers to the other Stanley, not the tool company Stanley. For those who aren't familiar, it was started by a guy who left the Fuller Brush Company in the 30's. Picture AMWAY and Tupperware and you get the idea, only much earlier.

The one at the bottom is an old and venerated brewery in Philly that dated back to the 1860's. It stubbornly held out as long as it could, and longer than most through the soul-crushing conglomeration in that industry, through the early 1980's. Sadly, the brewery, a massive, iconic brick building, is being demolished. Linkety link link link for more here.

But this is my absolute favorite! :pimpflash:

It is from Sherman-Klove's brief foray into the lager beer-forging market and issued to only select, special midget Chrome-Alloy tool-sets that no self-respecting SK collector should be without.

Kidding! While it may look shockingly, inconceivably near-identical to Sherman-Klove's logo, this S-K signifies the Schorr-Kolkschneider Brewing Company in St. Louis. :)

Home made from a sassafras tree I cut down. Uses a hard cut nail to grab the top.

Offcut is used as a spatula.

Beerbox from 170 yr old barnwood. Made up a dozen sets for Xmas gifts a couple years back.

Two of my favorites:

BIG (7") vintage Edlund that I found:

And a nice vintage magnetic opener that was in the house when I bought it:

The wife bought me some flip flops a few years ago to open beer. Great conversation starter but I never could use it to open a beer bottle. Just seemed wrong.

Years later, I bought a knife with a simple criteria. Need a clip, one blade and a bottle opener. Found this from Spider co, Love it. It was the best knife purchase I've made in years.

And Spider Co. has the sharpest factory blades that I've ever experienced. As sharp or sharper then the Henkles Pro kitchen knives we have.

This is an actual tool some of my fellow farmers might recognize. It’s a great little bottle opener.

Lugz, you have the most rare set of tools even for beer opening!!! GOT TO LOVE IT!!!

...off the topic - I passed Westfield this summer travelling all the way down the MassPike. There is a Normal Rockwell museum in Stockbridge: great place to see and a good way to introduce kids to our culture!

Ladies and gentlemen - keep them coming!!!

Learned a long time ago, down in the Caribbean sailing, to use another beer bottle upside down and you can flip the right side up bottle top off...

I keep one of my past Flight's challenge coins in my wallet. It does double duty opening drinks and getting free drinks (if your familiar with military challenge coin etiquette).

The Galena IL blacksmith shop was making a run of these for a customer and they made an extra one for me. Good heft and ergonomics.

Using the ledge of the bottom of the magazine works well.

Years and years ago a BF showed me how he could open a bottle with a knife... after a couple tries found it's not that hard - grasp the bottle at the neck, put the back of the blade under the lip, snug your hand holding the bottle up to it, and lever the cap off. Since then, I can't think of a half dozen times when I've used a "bottle opener"... Everything from a butter knife to a buck knife to a 10" chef's knife works...
