Seeing that Eagle can that was posted a few days ago reminded me I had been wanting to try out the Wavian Jerry Can.
Received in time from Santa! Santa has been good this year. lol

Time will tell if I like it.

Don't assume anything, you will own it if you let it slide now. I would place a phone call and send a note to them with pictures asking for a pick up slip and exchange. They should be ashamed to let those out in public.

I sent them an email with a few pix. We'll see.

nicholam77, Grumblebum, Bob Heine, Denwood and so many others have lauded the benefits of a track saw. It's been on the list for a long time, but I just couldn't decide on brand, size, cord or cordless, etc.

I swim in the Bosch battery environment and I am a massive convert to battery over corded for almost everything now. Bosch has a couple of options but not in the US market. :headscrat

Once I decided I wanted cordless, and based on the glowing reviews of others here, I looked hard at the Makita - including adding a second battery family which was appealing as Makita has far more cordless offerings than Bosch does. But batteries are pricey and I'm already invested so I started searching for a Bosch option. The GKT 18V-52 GC is a true plunge cordless option but it has mixed reviews. More importantly for me, it has a smaller 140mm (5.5") blade. I already own a CCS180B which has been a great tool but also a smaller 6.5" blade.

Then I saw this video.

Enter the GKS 18V-68 GC. It's got a 190mm (7.25") blade. Runs on Bosch/Mafell, Festool and Makita tracks. Not available in the US

I searched and searched. First to confirm battery compatibility - a total PITA, Bosch was no help. So detailed pics and specs were my solution. Everything lined up despite marketing differences (18V Core v ProCore). Then I found one at a reasonable price from an EU based on-line retailer called TechInn . Feedback was mixed, but I had been bitten by the 'must have it bug' and pulled the trigger. Shipping was a PITA and support was non existent. After 26 days the tracking info showed my parcel had arrived in the country of destination - GERMANY - I opened a dispute with PayPal. 4 days later I got new tracking info. 2 days later I received a delivery:

It comes in an L-Boxx 3 with an insert, wrench, allen key and edge guide. It feels substantial and looks to have excellent tolerances. The sled is quite beefy and looks like it'll run great as advertised on appropriate rails. Now to deep dive rails, find some to test fit (tough without that first trim cut) and then find a bargain. Merry Christmas to me.

So I have to ask, what do you know about the corded version of the Bosch track saw?

Assume you mean the GKT13-225; not much. After deciding on cordless, I didn't do much homework on it. Mixed reviews on the sled. Also reported as down on power compared to the 18V option. It is a 6.5" true plunge. Some say its comparable to the Festool TS55 - I'm not sold on that argument after handling the TS55 a friend has - but I couldn't find the Bosch to get my grubby mitts on (I didn't try very hard to find one). Prices seem to be all over the map from $479 to $599. The higher price is the MSRP...

The saw I ended up with has plunge capability with a nifty one handed thumb trigger, but there is not a depth-stop like the corded model.

I love the Festool, but you buy just about any 2 Festools and you can get 3 other big brand tools for similar coin.

If I had gone corded, I'd have gone Makita based on the huge number of positive reviews to cost/value ratio.

Some Icon long swivel ratcheting wrenches (getting ready to do motor mounts on my wife's Odyssey where these will be handy...)

How do you like those Icon wrenches? I'm trying to decide if I should pay more for those for ease of warranty, vs buying the mountain version

They seem very nice - I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but the finishing on them is very nice, and they seem very well-made.

As discussed earlier in the thread, I picked these up today for the road bag. Embarrassingly good for under $23.

Coxreels Continental collaboration. Comes with a 50' conti rubber hose and it was cheaper than the equivalent with pvc hose from northern tool. 2b1af0859ebac3d1130895f3370a16e6.jpg

nice. i hope you get some use out of it.

that's one of those things that i've wanted for a long time but haven't gotten because i'm afraid i'll only use it a couple times.

my understanding is you can use it to clean threads if you're careful, but it's not the ideal tool for the job. you'd be better off using a real thread restorer kit.

if the threads are really messed up or if you force the tool on there a bit wrong, you'll just slice off / ruin the thread instead of bending back in shape.

If they're that messed up, you need a set of thread files. I have 'em in Unified, Metric, and even Whitworth.

Thanks
I would probably get more use from a thread restore set for now. I can see the tap and die being a lot more useful if I had a lathe and/or did a lot of metal fab.

Went to the welding shop to get some gas, impulse bought these that were 2 for $99. I have a couple fancy Makita's but I wanted a couple more and these have a paddle switch.

Old welding table in the background.
New one in the foreground.
150 lbs of ground flat cast iron. Very excited. It’s an arc flat for a one curious. Better photos to come.

Very nice! I guess I’ll have to order one now. This is much better option than the certiflat welding table.

Favorite Christmas Present: Carlyle 3/8” locking flex head ratchet from the sale that was shared on the forum. Ordered it, gave it to the wife, and said here, wrap this up for Christmas.

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but those are Fein in name, not in quality. Those are their cheap chinese models unfortunately. They do make some terrific grinders, just not that model.
