Took the tool rests and cup off to try and lighten it up when we moved it.

Now there's a proper grinder, a US Electrical Tool Model 500. .

US Electrical Tool grinders make all other grinders look like toys because they cater to foundries with their lines of heavy production grinders and snaggers. That grinder is the smallest one they build.

BTW: The Model 500 is still made:

Clean that thing up and buy a rotary converter!

No to the 3 PH. Planning on using a VFD.
Spent $35 and just about threw out my back.
I've got the rests and the cup for the center, I took them off to move it.

Sounds like you're all set! A VFD is a good option, just be sure to install it in an enclosure.

Post up some photos as you install the VFD.

Get the right size wheels for it, the ones mounted on it are too narrow. Wider wheels add to the inertia, so more umph when the grinding gets tough.

Thanx for the advice there, Grooveking. I need to get a stand fabbed up to so it'll be a while until it's put to use.
