Found this vintage Starrett Combination Square at a Restore outlet for 50 cents. Never owned one before but it’s nice and tight and it’s quality seems amazing. Any rust on it very minimal on the surface. Scribe is even still with it.

Thank you guys, I’ve always used a speed square so I’m learning a lot about just how useful the combi square is.

If anyone more familiar with these Starrett’s has any idea of when it’s from I’d love to learn.

That's a good buy, well done.
Combi square is a useful piece of kit, i've been using one for years.
Slide the cast piece along the ruler, stick the end of the ruler down a hole, and it becomes a depth gauge.
Set a distance on the ruler from end to face of square, hold your pencil or scribe on the end of the ruler and it becomes a parallel marking gauge.

Hate to be Debbie Downer here, but the scale is a Starrett, but the head may not be. The shape of the nut seems off, and most LSS or black, or dimpled black. See the right side here for the dimpled. The smooth black finish is mostly buried.

But still good and usable for under a buck. The scribe alone is several $$

Good to know, there is remnants of a black finish on the anvil in the parts that wouldn’t be touched as much. But I see what you mean about the dimples. When I look up old ones online, most I see are dimpled a few are smooth. But you definitely know more about theses than I do, so thank you.

The first picture is of a couple of Starrett squares, Only one of the others are marked other than Made in USA. The shape looks like Union to me.

Starrett heads were always cast iron. The head in the O.P.'s picture looks to my eye to be something else... pot metal maybe? That said, you can't beat 50 cents for an accurate square WITH a scribe and intact bubble.

Ditto on not being a Starrett head, it has a green level, starrett's are white, the thumb wheels are also different.

Pretty sure its a Miller Falls or a newer Union.

The Starrett blade is very old based on the Starrett font.

Still a nice find especially for .50 cents
