I currently have a craftsman top and bottom 26” chest that I have outgrown. I was looking at toolbox’s online and stumbled across the extreme tools 41” box. Does anyone have any experience with these boxes? They look pretty good for the money at around $2k for the top and bottom box shipped. The few reviews I have seen on the 55” look promising. I’m just a home gamer looking to upgrade to a decent box that will hopefully last me the rest of my life. I’ve looked at the harbor freight 44” box but was not really impressed and also wanted a box that was a least 24” or more deep. I have also looked at the Menards masterforce 41” which I liked more then the harbor freight box but was wondering if the extreme tools box would be a better choice for the money hopefully being a better built more robust box. Appreciate any help.

I have 3 sets of the Extreme Tools boxes. They are a solid bargain in my opinion. I don't care for the ugly oversized logo, but otherwise I've been happy.

Ya know... for less than half that 2k you can get the US General 44" top and bottom box and for about 1200 the 56" set... and they are some seriously solid boxes.. just saying

Not sure what your budget is, or your space requirements, but give the Tool Vault Elite line of boxes sold by strictlytoolboxes.com a look. They offer a 30" deep variants which make a HUGE difference in usable drawer space.

I personally just bought an Elite XL 84" box. Unbelievable build. At some point I will post a deeper review.

I had a 55" Snap On box that became too small for my home shop and my always growing collection. Nobody every complained about having too much space for tools, but we all complain about running out of space. I'd recommend getting bigger than you need now...

For those specs (check before buying as didn't know RX line had 25" depth or lift latching drawer pulls) it fair price new and shipped .
25" depth and proper alloy lift handle latching is nice at that price .

I have that box in a 55. Bought it scratch n dent from rockintoolboxes. No problems. I would definitely buy again.
How was ordering from rockintoolboxes? They seem to be the only ones that I can find that have the 41” to order from.

My budget is about $1,500 to $2k and space is somewhat limited. I could fit a 55” in the space I have for it. Would I be better off going with a 55” bottom box vs the 41” top and bottom boxes?

They look from the pictures I could find like very well built boxes.

I did check out the harbor freight boxes but was not super impressed. Don’t get me wrong as they seem like decent boxes. I just wasn’t real crazy about the drawer layout and they are not that deep at I believe only 22”.

The really depends on your space. I had an old Cornwell 55"ish bottom box prior to getting my current 42" RS Pro combo and I really miss the fact that the Cornwell box doubled as my workbench. I miss the larger socket drawer as well.

Ordering went fine, but the sent the wrong box. They would have returned for free. Instead they gave me a great deal on that box so I bought it and then they sent me the box I was supposed to get. As for scratch and dent. The box came and I couldn’t find a flaw. Other than the delay to get the box I originally ordered, everything went great.

If I had that set, that Logo would have to go. You could always put a custom logo in it's place.

The HF roller cabinets are 22" deep the drawers are a smidge over 19-1/2" deep. (19-5/8" ??) And an over abundance of shallow height drawers. Still great budget priced boxes.

I would buy the biggest bottom that you can. Looking down intro drawers makes it so much easier to find things. This one is a little over your budget, but take a look:

https://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/tool-vault-elite-553010-rc-10-drawer-tool-cabinet.html

The variety of drawer sizes and depths gives you lots of options on how you want to store things. Being 30" deep you end up with drawers that are almost 27" deep. This allows long breaker bars or pry bars to be stored perpendicular to the drawer front and maximize space. The deep drawers also allow use of racks for pliers.

Before I bought, I made a plan for how all my tools would fit into the box and I had a good idea how much room I would have left for future growth.

I recently bought a 72x25" box from RollCabs.com. It's an Extreme Toolbox build with some specs by the reseller (they omit the gaudy logo too).

It's good, I'd buy it over again if I had to do it. You can move drawers around as you please. Layouts were better than other brands plus all the other comments others have made. Legit metal latches that OUTSIDE of the drawer, so tools don't accidentally keep you from opening the drawer like with Craftsman GripLatch.

yeah the Homak another same with latch mechanism all on inside of drawers which stupid .
Masterforce is only cheapish (with rebate/sale deal) store brand that has the better logical design latch .

I know I would enjoy having a bigger bottom box but would miss having a top box lol. I guess I could always add one later on later on down the road if they don’t change the design. Lol so many choices.

That’s good to know. Sounds like a good company. Anyone have any experience with strictlytoolboxes.com or rollcabs.com?

Looks like a very nice box but it unfortunately a little out of my price range.

I had seen the 55” rollcab box and was very interested in it. It’s a little cheaper and has a little more weight capacity for the drawers. Is there any difference between the extreme 55” and the rollcab version as in build quality? How was you experience buying from rollcabs?

Thanks again everyone! Really appreciate the help

I don't recall there being much difference. Build is good, head and shoulders above HF or Craftsman. Not knowing what a Snap-On/Lista/etc is like, it's hard to really gauge though.

I had a good experience from rollcabs. I would have just as easily ordered from strictlytoolboxes too. I got a phone call within an hour to confirm everything. Box was packed like a tank.

Great sharing of experiences here! I am also considering an Extreme Tools 55” lower cabinet to replace my current 41” Clarke HD Plus upper/lower combination, as the Extreme Tools additional depth should allow me to store all my tools and more workbench surface in my garage. This won’t be until at least next year.

How does the Extreme Tools drawer latch system work?
Are the drawers stable under load?

@todd_fuller Lista cabinets are incredible: my company has them in our shops. Unfortunately, they far exceed my budget. I don’t like Snap-On’s latch (guess I’m spoiled by the Lista “lift to unlock” system): I don’t have experience with MAC or MATCO. Rousseau are similar to Lista but not very common in my area.

Masterforce at Menard’s has a similar latch system to Lista. They offer a good value but based off the Menard’s website, this series appears to be discontinued.
