So, Lugz is first on the board in '21, and Nexoidian in with the first YOU. ****...

...MAJORLY!!!

Haven’t participated in a few years, generally taking a break from tool buying and garage journal but 2021 is a new year. Bought a box of tools off FB marketplace for the New Britain hub puller but it came with a Proto mallet, USA made compression tester, and a collection of other New Britain Pullers. Happy new year y’all

Nice score! Good pullers are worth their weight in gold when you need them.

A Smiths fan, huh? I'm generally hard on the overuse of sampling in modern music, but that's actually pretty good.

Actually, I hate the Smiths. Morrissey was just WAY to annoying with lyrics and attitude for me. I recently read somewhere a theory that people were either a Smiths fan or a Cure fan, but couldn't be both. I don't think that's remotely true for everyone, but definitely is for me!

But, that guitar riff is hypnotic (in either song). I do remember when Soho released Hippychick (in 1990!!!), lots of diehard Smiths fans lost their minds over the sample. People would actually call into the radio station and complain (remember, this was back in the days of live radio DJs, no satellite radio, and extremely rare cell phones).

Nex I’ll add another YOU ****! to the chorus. Heck of a nice find. I know that racing feeling when you’re onto a good find!

Lugz nice hauls to start off the year. Looking forward to more about that wrench.

Mav great New Britain haul.

47jlk nice Walden find. Not sure in a date but it’s metric so that’s great. That would be a good one for the Walden threads.

I think I started the year off right! I’m hoping this is a sign that this will be how this year goes for me.

I literally searched marketplace and Craigslist for hours yesterday morning, because I had a free day. I was even willing to drive up to 3 hours. Needless to say I couldn’t find a deal I was interested in. So I gave up and went to watch the Alabama game with my father in law. Once I got there I decided to look one more time, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened marketplace and saw this Wilton 930 posted and only 5 minutes before. I didn’t know it was a 930,I only new it was a Wilton and it was about 5 minutes from where I was. I couldn’t believe my luck when the seller responded, and then gave me an address. My heart was racing the whole way there!

Sorry, kinda rambled on a bit,

I now present my $20 Wilton 930. Slide is stamped 6-47

Thanks, guys. It's called a Stix-On. Dates to 1918. Has a long thin coil spring pinned inside that skinny pressed steel handle and the jaw. I posted more photos and info on the 'Oddfellows' thread.

Last find of the old year, two Craftsman cushion nut drivers. 7/16 and 1/2. They were pretty grimy.

$1 plus tax at the Habitat. Needless to say I was happy to find something there as always. Besides, never had much luck finding the cushion models.

Scored this craftsman block grinder today for $50. Not as good as my Wilton score, but it’ll do! It runs (ran) beautifully.
0Mukr1.jpg

Upon taking it apart to clean it up, I discovered the sheathing on two of the wires is severely dry rotted. Hoping I can fix it

Might as well throw a pic in if my $20 Wilton. I’ve had a decent first two days of the new year

I'm sure the Vise thread folks would LOVE if you posted the vise there and maybe took it to a paint mixologist to have the color analyzed?

Well, on the first Saturday of the new year we are off to a good start! Vises and pullers and wrenches, oh my!

and on that note, I had a good day for this early in the year.

Tumico caliper needle files, and a Carter carb kit, not sure what might be missing from the latter.

And on the way home, I stopped at my friend Rileysan's and came away with the following:

Blackhawk Torqueflash and a handful of Carter carb tools. And now I need to deliver an Artisan tool box and two ratchets.

Picked up 44 modern repro wagon wheels for SWMBO's yard art project via a no-contact FB Marketplace purchase at a little over $2 a piece. The largest wheels at the top of the frame are 24" in diameter.fcacdd3ad729ba8d06a4047c0efed569.jpg

That's worthy of a You ****, BB! Materials alone are way more than your cost--and there's a lot of labor in each of those wheels! Great buy!

I picked up a Proto rolling tool box from a USPS auction here in Phoenix. I think I got a pretty good deal, but I can't find any stampings with the model or year on it. I'd appreciate any help with ID.

51" wide
41" tall
Drawers:
1 - 46" drawer
7- 29" drawers
1 - 15" by 21" cabinet with one shelf that slides out

It isn't that old, as the logo is pretty modern. 2000-2010 I would say. Not sure of the model, but I for one would love to have it. Good job on getting that for $139!

You ****!

BMW paid me a visit on Saturday, which he has already mentioned, and during our visit he mentioned to me that one of our favorite flea markets was opening back up and that he and Provincial would likely be there.

Well, I didn't run into either one of them today but I did manage to score a few nice items. I already have enough Craftsman RHFT ratchets to last several lifetimes but I couldn't walk away from them when priced this low - especially the NOS 3/8" ratchet. More importantly, I found a NOS Craftsman stubby nut driver set that has been on my wish list for a while.

- NOS Craftsman 8 piece stubby nut driver set
- NOS Craftsman 3/8" drive RHFT ratchet
- Craftsman 1/4" drive RHFT ratchet
- Craftsman 43381 adjustable box wrench
- Proto LA 9/16" x 1/2" DBE
- Proto 6mm combo wrench
- Vlchek W1012 5/16" x 3/8" DOE wrench

All told, I paid $20 for the tools and another $3 for a Disney's Frozen puzzle for my granddaughter.

Thanks for the reminder, Aaron!

Brian

Any time Brian! And I am just gonna throw the Artisan box in the back of my truck, so I know it will be there next time we meet up.

I did the Early Bird at the flea, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. I was gone before the regular 9 AM opening. That one vendor on the South wall was very easy on his pricing, but so were many others. I'm glad I left some goodies for you.

I'll make a report when I get a chance to take photos.

Thanks, OR. After looking at my picture, I went back out and recounted just now--seems I only got 37 wheels, rather than the advertised 44. Ah well--one of the hazards of a no-contact buy. Still a great deal!

I tried to buy that exact box in Houston a couple weeks ago for $450. Sold before I could get there. Good deal!

I took advantage of the "Early Bird" option at the local flea market this weekend. It lets you in while vendors are setting up on Saturday afternoon and also enter at 6 AM on Sunday, while the regular opening is at 9 AM.

Saturday, I didn't see much, because few vendors were open for business. I did find two items, an Indestro 8099 1/2 drive torque wrench in beautiful shape. Also a mostly complete security bit set. I did scout out several tables that had things worth checking on the next morning. Photo #1.

Sunday morning I got there just after 6, and found many interesting items. Photo #2 is a load leveler and Nicolson thread restorer file (SAE) for $7.50, the following items for $3.00:

1/2" New Britain crowfoot wrench
Xcelite 9/32 and 3/8 Mini Nut Drivers
Craftsman =V= 1/4 drive flex extension
Crescent ***** punch
Barcalo 19/32 x 11/16 DOE
Bonney Zenel 3029 11/16 x 25/32 DOE

The #897 11/32 x 3/8 ignition DOE cost a dollar from a vendor I use frequently.

One vendor had a bunch of rusty wrenches that he got from an "artist" who welded them into art work. $5.00 bought the following:

Cornwell 1-1/16 open end, thin, perhaps a tappet chopped up
Williams 15/16 chopped open end of a combo.
Lectrolite Tru-Fit 2016 remains of a 5/8" box end
Intact wrenches included:
Hinsdale 1416F 7/16 x 1/2 square DBE for adjusting Ford brakes
Vlcheck 1618 stubby 1/2 x 9/16 DBE
Rusty 7/8 obstruction wrench
Barcalo 13/16 x 7/8 DOE
Craftsman Long-C DOE tappet No. 3 5/8 x 11/16. Seems Cadmium plated.
Vlcheck WBH 2022 5/8 x 11/16 DBE

Photo #3 is what I bought from one vendor. He is the same one I got the Indestro torque wrench from on Saturday, and I'm sure he is the one Rileysan got his NOS Craftsman RHFT ratchet from. He had many Proto Professional combos in a bin, most of which I left for others. He hadn't put that stuff out on Saturday. He charged me $20.00 for all this.

Proto:
1248 1-1/2 combo
5468 Flex Handle
Professional Combos:
1211 11/32 - I am in the habit of picking up 11/32 wrenches since they don't come in most sets, and are the right size for #8 machine screw nuts.
1212 3/8

4761 1/4 drive extension
278 pliers

Diamond 9" cutters
Powr-Kraft 4962 3/8 x 7/16 short DBE
Thorsen V 2016 1/2 combo
Hargrave 1/4" pin punch (same maker of C-clamps?)
P&C wrenches:
2716 1/2 combo
2718 9/16 combo
2222 5/8 x 11/16 DBE
2920 9/16 x 5/8 DOE

Wards Master Quality fencing tool
D-I (?) Made in USA DBE 3/8 x 7/16
MAC 1/2 stubby distributor wrench

Photo #4 continues the items from this vendor:

Eklind allen wrench set
Air chuck
Wright X79+ stud remover
2 Craftsman USA, 1 Proto 3/8 drive extensions
Proto flex sockets, 3/8, 7/16, 9/16 (X2), and Blackhawk 11/16.
Proto 1/4 drive, 1/2" deep 12-point socket
Proto 5/8 flex spark plug socket
Indestro 6247 3/8 drive, 3/4 12-point deep socket
Bonney A24 3/4 12-point 1/2 drive
P&C 1/2 drive, 12-point sockets:
6030 15/16
6032 1"
6126 13/16 deep

In the background are two items from yet another vendor:

Winner Tool Company, Puyallup, WASH pipe wrench
Kaufmann spot light from Model T era
I got the spot light to give to a friend who owns Model T's.
