Need a Drill Index - and I'm picky

I had a Ridgid drill index that met my needs, but though the case was steel, much of the insides was plastic. It wore out/broke to where the bits don't stay put any more. I've looked for a replacement but haven't found one yet.

what's unusual is it has two each of the smallest (most easily broken) bits, 1/16,
, 1/8 Then it skips to 3/16, 7/32 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8. Makes it a very compact package (3 x 5 1/2) that fits easily in my drill box and covers the large majority of my needs in the field. I really don't have the room (or need!) to carry around a 29-piece drill index.

I've looked at Zoro, McMaster and some of Amazon, but no dice. Help!

I have an old Lawson drill index that is nearly 30 years old. All steel much like the Huot combination index with fractional, numeric and alpha bits but in the traditional Lawson brown color, more than likely made by Huot.

I would suggest the Huot for long term dependability and service.

Is it worth 3D printing a new inside piece for your existing case?

Probably wouldn't last any longer - but I have thought about fabbing up the insides out of sheet metal. Wildly impractical time-wise, but an interesting project.

How long did the first one last? Once you’ve done the hard work of drawing it up, additional copies are easy and cheap, assuming you have a 3D printer. Another way to look at it...the first one will cost about $200 and includes a free 3d printer, but additional copies are nearly free!
