BMW paid me a visit on Saturday, which he has already mentioned, and during our visit he mentioned to me that one of our favorite flea markets was opening back up and that he and Provincial would likely be there.

Well, I didn't run into either one of them today but I did manage to score a few nice items. I already have enough Craftsman RHFT ratchets to last several lifetimes but I couldn't walk away from them when priced this low - especially the NOS 3/8" ratchet. More importantly, I found a NOS Craftsman stubby nut driver set that has been on my wish list for a while.

- NOS Craftsman 8 piece stubby nut driver set

- NOS Craftsman 3/8" drive RHFT ratchet

- Craftsman 1/4" drive RHFT ratchet

- Craftsman 43381 adjustable box wrench

- Proto LA 9/16" x 1/2" DBE

- Proto 6mm combo wrench

- Vlchek W1012 5/16" x 3/8" DOE wrench

All told, I paid $20 for the tools and another $3 for a Disney's Frozen puzzle for my granddaughter.

Thanks for the reminder, Aaron!

Brian

Man I still hate you for this haul! Major suckage here! Those nos stubbies are super nice! And this rhfts with the Sears bar code still on them [emoji15][emoji50]

Well this is the first purchase of the year. It was worth the $100 because the seller delivered it to me and will make a good user vise, even if it has been repaired. Parker 439 rotating vise.

Well, on the first Saturday of the new year we are off to a good start! Vises and pullers and wrenches, oh my!

and on that note, I had a good day for this early in the year.

Tumico caliper needle files, and a Carter carb kit, not sure what might be missing from the latter.

And on the way home, I stopped at my friend Rileysan's and came away with the following:

Blackhawk Torqueflash and a handful of Carter carb tools. And now I need to deliver an Artisan tool box and two ratchets.

Funny you should get that torque flash. I found it at the habitat in Beaverton years ago. The box is in pretty good shape for its age. Nice find on the Carter stuff as well!

Good morning, Happy New Year!, and congratulations to our new moderator.

This is from an estate sale I found on FB Market. I thought it was the first day of the sale when I arrived but turns out the owner run estate sale was listed other places too and had been running for a day or two already. I messaged with the seller on FB when I first saw the sale. There was a vise in the workshop but was small in the picture of the room and I couldn't make out what it was. I was interested but didn't commit to it; didn't know what it was, neither did the seller. I arrived at the sale and the vise wasn't on the table. There were a few of us in the workshop. I said there was a vise on the table. One guy responded, "Yes, I just unbolted it". And sure enough it was in his pile on the floor. Then he said the most unexpected thing. "If you came here for the vise you can have it". I took a look at the vise, saw it was a Reed 104 1/2R, and I accepted the kind offer. It was a younger guy that seemed to be picking tools for his workshop and wasn't so into a fixed base vise. Lucky Me!

The prices were good. I made my pile of things and the seller basically priced everything at $1. I paid $40 for the Vise, $15 for the balance of everything else.

I hadn't seen a Starrett Caliper with the big gap before and thought it was broken at first...lol. It's fine :)

The owner that passed was an outdoorsman; hunter, fisherman. The guns had all been removed from the house and the fishing gear was mostly all gone. Seller said over 50 reels had sold. The first 15 sold 1-2 per buyer. Then a guy bought the remaining 35.

I'm also having a good start to the year like Nex. Picked up a Record 6VS 6" at a yardsale that was among other no name vises, a real one made in england, for $20. It appears it was used only a few times because the jaws are nearly perfect; likely sat on a shelf, got the flea market repaint, then sat some more. Followed by another yardsale picking up this nice oak filing cabinet for $12.

Then went to an antique mall and picked up a cool looking Hibsdale DOE. Finally, my boss knew I did woodworking and he was clearing out a place and gave me a stash of desert ironwood from the place he was clearing, about 10lbs worth (desert ironwood is sold by the pound not volume). The log had no checks or cracks running through it from what I can tell which is very rare to happen.

Can anyone explain what this Torkflash is or how it works? Searches across the internet showed many GJ members having them and many sold on eBay. Actual descriptions seem lacking....my interest is piqued.

It is battery operated. You put batteries in the handle, select the desired torque spec cylinder, put the cylinder in the cross handle and then torque. When it reaches the desired setting, a light flashes. Pretty advanced for its time!

Eagerly looking forward to pics of the Plomb set, but if you use a site like Postimage.com you can put the pics up at any time.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

As promised, here are the pictures of the Plomb haul.

Everything is dated either 1A or 1B and, based on the 1940 catalog, I’ve got a 5400T set. Look like the PO added the deep sockets (includes 7/8, 1, & 1 1/8) and misplaced the 21/32 (5421), 3/4 (5424), and 31/32 (5431). There is also a 29/32 included that doesn’t appear as part of the set in the catalog.

John

My flea finds from this morning (Lugz 2021_03)

attachment.php

I don't have a vintage Thor drill, but couldn't pass up the vintage NOS Thor wire brush attachment, because someone will want it.

Four (4) of the five (5) vintage alloy < M/W > Powr-Kraft sockets were in a postwar chrome "-D-I-" socket set box, with only a speeder, a few extensions, the "-D-I-" sockets and a crapload of gunky nuts and bolts and springs and stuff. I plucked the Powr-Kraft and left the rest. As I was going through a cardboard box in the same lot, I found the fifth Powr-Kraft socket and the Wards Master center punch, which sent me scouring for others with no dice.

Some of you may recognize the little ratcheting screwdrivers as Botnick Motor Corp. Yes, that Botnick. The Chevy dealer tool DaVinci on the side. A few months ago I found one and discovered that those famous and popular red and black BMC locking plier-wrenches were not Mr. Botnick's only invention. Now I've got more than a few.

(Also bagged a ringneck on my way home!)

I am going to call fowl on Lugz for not specifying the socket drive size.

I am guessing they are 1/2" but not sure. Also, I think I might have a Thor catalog if looking up the part number on the wire attachment interests you.

HAHA! Cute. I am slipping. Yes, 1/2-inch. I just posted them on the P-K thread.

Congratulations on finding a couple more.
HAHA. My first thought, swear to God, was, 'I should PM TOTO and see if he wants his back!'

The guy didn't have change, so I had to go buy a breakfast sandwich (2 eggs, scrapple and onions) and coffee, and the whole time I was thinking, 'We should've just waited it out, all we did was keep the postman busy for nothing...' Funny though, because I have never, ever, and I mean that, seen one before, and there aren't any others on the whole site. Now I have 5! That's the way it goes sometimes.

----------------------------------------------------------

LEFT-BEHIND

Postwar Indestro 3/8 set (too incomplete, little interest) and a cone anvil (too expensive).

Today I dropped by the recycling yard just to see if there was anything fun to bring home. No cans to exchange for tools today. :dunno:
Sitting there, looking all forlorn, was this Walker Lift-A-Car No 867. Seems to work. Pumps up and lets down like it should. Stood tall even with me standing on it.

Will probably need to pull it apart and make sure it in good serviceable condition before I go to actually use the thing. Until then, it'll just be taking up some space. ;)

They sell by weight. Usually they try to get $0.50 per pound. This little ******* is 91#s! I talked em down to $25 so nearly half their ask and I'm happy with it for that.

Good luck this year, lads! Happy Hunting!

I'm finally out of the starting gate for the year, although it's not what I'd call an auspicious start. Drove out to the sticks for what seemed like a good sale. Turns out they had a pre-sale for all their email-listers yesterday. Today was the first "public" sale day. Apparently a lot sold for high dollar on the pre-sale, so good for the home team. On the plus side for the rest of us, everything was 30% off. The minus side being, of course, a lot sold yesterday... The WF-21 Plomb 3/8 ratchet was all I could find of interest. $2 plus about 1/4 tank of gas. Let's round that out to $12... Hey, but it was a fun drive. I forgot to mention it's yet another example of the down/up arrow on the logo.

Nice snag, Unaiu.

It was in the 20's here this morning, but a few vendors were enough to fill my bag (Lugz 2021_04) with some goodies!

Fom the bottom to the top, a couple BELL SYSTEM C tools (TOE wrench, and TBD), not one but two (2) wartime GMTK-spec 4 oz. ball-pein hammers (Fairmount, and Bonney), early Waldes Truarc snap ring pliers with cinch down, a Weyersberg (Made in Germany, bugle logo) 9/16" x 1/2" DOE wrench (duplicate, but my other one doesn't have the size markings), a pair of very small file and tool handles, a Short Long C Craftsman drill and wire gauge, a Coes All Steel Handle monkey wrench (pat. 1901, my first ever, glad it's a 6"), and last, but definitely not least, a Berbecker sailmaker's needle.

I do not like to double post, but I thought a few of you might enjoy what I found at my local garage sale today; although it is not very exciting (just a vintage screwdriver), I thought some of you might enjoy a little background History.

Made a little better headway today. Found some 50's era Thorsen tools in great shape. Everything from the socket rail up is an almost complete Thorsen 1/2dr Set #1218--missing only the metal case and the 3/4" socket. The 3/4 position was held by a Blackhawk socket and the 1-1/8 socket and the universal are part of the next higher set #1223.

Below the rail is another open pawl ratchet (77J) a later round head 77JC--both 3/8dr along with a 10" extension. At bottom right is a Thorsen 10M 1/4dr and 6" ext. At bottom left is a P&C 0251 hinge handle and what I doubt is the T handle. The rod fits perfectly but is no more than a rod--no ball catch on either end. The whole lot was $39.

08 Jan 21-1a.jpg

In the Left Behind zone are the hilariously expensive selections of tools at a second sale. And especially for Lugz and Outlaw, a couple of POS Chinese lanterns--that's not $65 for the pair--it's each.

Well, the weekend is off to a slow start, not surprising as much of the country is still in the depths of winter. And I have to say, that is a mighty fine jack, while Thorsen is one of my favorites to collect.

On the home front, I picked up the following at two out of three sales:

A trio of Snap-on overstrike sockets, K-D brake tools, P&C 100 and Proto professional ratchets, Proto sockets - including a very rare Proto LA 17/32", and a very interesting chisel with a logo I do not recognize:

a closeup of the makers mark:

Remember, we are currently one day closer to summer!
