what should I use to attach this quarter round?

Hi all,

So I bought some of the plastic quarter round for my 1/2 bath in the detached garage. Since it is against the block, I am looking to use a glue/caulk/etc. to keep it in place. What would you all recommend?

Maybe a couple dots of liquid nails.

If it’s against block, your on track with caulk. Great adhesive. Do one wall at a time and hold in place til it dries by running sticks from the opposite wall. Cut down some 2x4s to like 1/2” x 3/4 for both strength and flex.

Construction Adhesive, like PL has made me look good lots of times.

I have not had good luck with construction adhesive.

I've had better luck with silicone caulk. Downside....you need a way to hold it in place while it cures

I would use 2-1/2" high vinyl wall base instead of quarter round. Stick it to the wall with wall base adhesive. The wall base has the advantage of having more surface area for the adhesive.

Wall base adhesive would also work for your quarter round.

I agree withh using a vinyl base but if you really want to use the 1/4 round, I would use Locktite Power Grab to attach it.

I agree. This stuff grabs instantly just like they advertise and it is reasonably soft as it comes out of the tube so it will squish around and not hold the quarter round away from the surface like some construction adhesives do. Since walls are rarely perfectly straight, like cdestuck said, test fit each piece and have some sticks ready if needed to keep it against the wall. Even the instant grab may not keep a trim piece curved while it sets up. BTW that plastic wood turns into terrible, terrible dust. I push my radial arm saw out onto the driveway when cutting much of it. The dust sticks to you and your clothing and is harmful to your lungs so wear a good mask too.

+1 That would be my choice too. It's grab isn't perfect (though my experience is with the "general purpose" version), but it should be good enough to keep it in place until it dries. And unlike most construction adhesives, it dries to a milky white, so with the white walls, a little mess won't be all that visible.

It's also water cleanup, so it is much easier than silicone or urethane to fix mistakes.

Gorilla Glue construction adhesive is also white, so It will blend in and holds well. I have used it in my uninsulated garage multiple times and has held up well, even with large temperature fluctuations.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up using caulk and it held up great!
