I recently got a Vessel screwdriver delivered to my house. It has a metal cap and is sold as an impact driver. I have a collection of screwdrivers in my drawer and feel stupid for not getting one sooner. I was doing work on my motorcycle carburetors last week and was impressed how well the #2 worked just with my hand power, a few times I used the impact feature successfully. I had some issues with some #3 phillips heads and was using one of my stand by Snap On screwdrivers, I resorted to using a hammer on the handle of this one and got no-where. I ended up using a very fresh Snap On 3 that was almost new, I used a hammer on the end and got satisfaction. So, I guess the scenerio goes, your always gona learn something new and leave room for new arrivals in your drawers.

I have a few Vessel JIS screwdrivers, both impact and regular. That are by far the best I have ever used. I have some Snap On also but hardly ever use them, the Vessel is my choice.

Those impacta screwdrivers are impressive! I had a #2 jis fastener that had been completely stripped out by a Phillips bit to the point it wouldn't even bite with hand pressure with one good swing at it with a hammer it busted it loose!

Vessel drivers followed the old JIS standard and now the new updated standard. The reason they work so well is unlike phillips they are not designed to cam out. Phillips are SPECIFICALLY designed to cam out so you can over tighten the screw-but this means when loosening they gont grip well. Compare the tips-they are different. In fact the vessel has little burrs to help grip.
The impact feature is AWESOME in itself. I have both a #2 and #3 and the #3 works DAMN well for removing stubborn rotor screws.

Concur, JIS/ISO cross bits and drivers are game changers. Love my Vessels.

Would you please share the model number you have, VESSEL makes a lot of different drivers
I haven’t been so impressed with their impacta drivers. I had no problem using a manual impact driver, but the impacta with a 4lb sledge just couldn’t generate enough twist to move the screws (less than 20k old car). So the manual impact driver would be my choice with P3 screws, if it fits. If it doesn’t, well the impacta will certainly fit into smaller recesses, so there is still utility there. With smaller P2 screws, I would hope the lower force required to move them would make the impacta drivers a little more useful. I didn’t end up buying it after my experience with the P3, but if the need arose and my manual impact driver couldn’t access a screw, I would try the P2 impacta.

OK, Hope this helps, had a nice Sunday at the local Swap Shoppe, flea market. Got a mercury balance tool for my motorcycle carburetors, its used to synchronize the butterflies, I have an English tool but could'nt pass it it for a dollar LOL. Peace

I learned about them from a youtuber believe it or not. The cheesy tool kits that come with the older Japanese motorcycles (today I think they give you zero) used to have a cheesy plastic handle that would accept the JIS phillips bit in the kit. I would use every once in a while but never was keen on them as I had a boat load of American made screwdrivers. Funny how you can always learn something. I do have a mountain of spark plug sockets from those kits amassed over the years that I am fond of.Side bar: my 5 year old daughter knows how to open the ladder system on the drawers on my KRL - she knows what a number 3 and number 2 are and points to a phillips on one of my motorcycles and says. "thats for the orange screwdriver (which happens to be a S.O. number 3 phillips)" She is also rather fond of my Nascar mother of pearl Snap on screwdriver set. Thought I would share that

Yep, I own several Vessel screwdrivers--highly recommended. Particularly if you drive Asian vehicles, the JIS standard really helps when working on my Camry & my wife's Corolla. I even use them on my son's Ford Ranger.

I bought some vessels at a previous job and everyone loved them so much they all disappeared from my tool box.
Its actually not new. Technically, it's obsolete. Supposedly the DIN standard is supposed to fit. But the Vessel screwdrivers just fit better. There are others that do as well.

JIS screwdrivers were an eye opener to two of my best friends. TOPTUL makes very good cross point screwdrivers (they call them P2) built to the new DIN standard that incorporates JIS. When I give one to each of these guys they could not believe how well it fit the carb screws on their Jap motorcycles which their trusty Crapsman Phillips screwdrivers had thoroughly destroyed. Sold a shitload of TOPTUL #2's to the entire dirt bike community here in PHX.
