Just finished this handwheel up for a 8" American Scale vise.
13" X 3/4" round bar rim and spokes.
2-1/4" X 3/4" half circles for gription
3" sch 40 hub
1" pin

The 1st thing I thought was a handwheel will get in the way... I see the clevis pin so it will be easily removable if needed. That looks pretty cool.

I took one of the handle ends that Kevin Scott had carved and used it for a speed knob.

And lastly, made a cheater for giving it the onion, when needed.
It is made from 3/4" Sch 80 pipe, which will yield before damaging the vise

You need a little stamp with your name on it so you can stamp all your one-off tools. That way they can be correctly identified when they are rounded up in 100 years to go into the local Royce museum of oddly utilitarian necessities.

I wonder if you could put a slot in the handle so you could have a 1/4 turn of slop. You would be able to spin the wheel and impact the vise tighter (just like ridgid pipe threading machine).

Just a thought.

I’ve had the same thought and feel that that would be the ultimate.
As luck would have it, the flywheel effect on this one provides a nice torque, when using the speed knob to take up on it.

Wow, I was just thinking about one of these the other day. I have this vise mounted on an old brake caliper for use on my welding table. I use it to hold things for welding, so it doesn't need a lot of clamping force. Just easy and quick open/closing. That would be a perfect addition.
