My tool box is getting smaller and a new tool box isn't on the horizon anytime soon. I need to reorganize to make more room, particularly my wrenches. Any ideas or suggestions? Pics would be a big help. I have some cut to length wrench organizers on the way.

Use reverse wrench racks for every other set you have. They fit together nicely with standard racks.

I like the Sort-a-Tool for my basic combo wrenches. Saved a TON of space.

You can get them at Sears for $10.

One thing you can do is to re-sort your stuff so that very large/very small sizes from the wrench and socket sets go into a more crowded drawer at the bottom. It seems better and more intuitively right to have everything in a row of the same stuff, but chances are about 1/3 of each kind of stuff is very seldom used and can be parked out of sight until actually needed.
On special sets, like what I keep in each car, I often find myself removing stuff as I find that only one socket from the big set is needed for the car or that tiny nuts are limited to two actual sizes.

How do you like it? I'm *very* trained on what I've been doing forever, metric on the left, SAE on the right. It just feels... dirty.. in my head to intermix them into the same tray! lol

Seriously, I'm having a mental issue with it that I can't get over as much as I like the idea.

Yeah, I've got the same problem, I don't like the idea of mixing SAE and metric. I wonder if they make other versions that are just metric or just SAE, probably not because I would be interested in that.

They don't. Not that company at least, I looked at their page the other day. I was going to post a thread asking the same thing, wrench orgranization.

I found this:

http://id3446.securedata.net/haridesign/Sortaweb/contact.html

I believe they are the makers (USA made), I'm going to send an email asking and if they do (which I agree I don't think they do), and suggest they do, maybe send a link to this thread.

Those would be really nice (even if just for secondary wrenches) in separate SAE and metric versions.

Hrmm, that's not the page I was looking at, maybe I've gotten confused in all of the wrench research I've been doing.

Either way, let us know if you get anything back from them. I would love to see a SAE and metric seperated version. Also, the big complaints were that it doesn't hold a "standard" set of wrenches, it only goes up to 3/4". Most set's I've ever seen go to at least 7/8", some to 1". I could see buying a number of these if they made them in the right sizes, 1 for standard combo's, stubbies, ratcheting, flex ratcheting. I would be happy with something along the lines of a tray that could handle 1/4" - 1" to start with.

I think Sort A Tool has the right idea, they just need to expand the line and run with it!

I tried sending an email and it bounced back saying:

I've got a pair of the WrenchBoss organizers for sale in the classifieds if anyone would like to try them.

I'm not trained, so it doesn't bother me a bit. I was thrilled with how much space I saved.

I use Gearwrench x-beam XL wrenches. With the length and the twist, I can't fit two wrenches in a slot. The WrenchBoss, seem to be designed for regular length and profile wrenches only.

I had a Sort-A-Tool wrench organizer and it was just okay. It didn't fit in the shallow drawer of my KRA tool box with the 3/4" wrench in it, so I wound up selling it. I use the Ernst wrench racks now and like them A LOT better.

I tried the Harbor Freight ones, but it didn't fit my wrenches. The "tabs" to hold down the wrenches were too wide. I even have a set of some Pittsburgh wrenches (the wrench racks were pittsburgh) and those didn't fit either! ticked me off, i returned them.

+1 on the reversed wrench racks. Snap-on has them as Blue-point. The soft grip ones are awsome. I'll post some picks when I get a chance.

The mixing of Imperial and Metric is the exact reason I didnt use those trays also. I feel better knowing I`m not the only one.

i'm glad i'm not the only one either,
but i dont mix std & metric wrenches in the same drawer, always seperate drawers
sockets are a different story altogether, it's ok for them to co-habitate in the same drawer

reverse rack...

Or build some boxes and stack on edge...

One member used a larger stretched out spring in his drawer to set his wrenches in and stack them on edge. Looked like a good idea.
