Hi,

I will tell you what I missed out on yesterday.

I check Kijiji for tools a few times a day. Yesterday morning a guy had posted 2 ads, one for a Harris style torch set $100 and another for air tools: 3 impacts (1 IR, 1 SO and 1 CP), DA, buffer, grinder, drill & hammer, $100!!! I almost $hit myself!

He had posted at about 10:30 the night before. I leave home at about 7:15 so I figured I would call at 8. No answer at 8, got him at 9. Someone had already called for both! (insert expletive of choice here) He said to call back at noon to see if the guys showed up, called left message, no response. (insert expletive of choice here)

The only good thing is the guy called me back at around 6pm to let me know that a buddy had a better torch set that he was looking to sell, so I am going to see him today, but $100 for all those air tools! (insert expletive of choice here)(insert expletive of choice here)(insert expletive of choice here)(insert expletive of choice here)!

Maybe someone will have a more heartbreaking story to make me feel better.

Not tool related, but I saw an 1150 Massey Ferguson tractor on CL for $1500 about six weeks ago. For any non-tractor people out there,an 1150 was one of the first tractors (if not the first) to offer a V-8 diesel back in 1969. Great looking body-style,150hp+/-Perkins V-8,everything I would like to have in a fun summer rebuild project. I waited until the weekend to go check it out,and by the time I called, the jackass had sent it to the scrapper.:puke: I guess he wanted to cash in on some of the insane scrap prices they have been paying out in the last few weeks. It's kind of like the whole "cash for clunkers" thing, while it made me completely sick,I'm not going to knock someone for doing what they want with their own property. I still kick myself for waiting to call about it though.

No offense, but the scrapper was the best place for that POS. Apparently someone forgot to let Massey know that people like when their tractor starts in a morning.

It's a piss off especially because I was trying to be nice and not call at 7:30 in the morning and wake some guy up, but in hindsight I should have!

I was surfing CL one evening and found a rebuilt Powermatic 87 for $200! I emailed the guy and said I would be there in the morning. At this point it was 10:30PM.

Do you know some guy had the gall to call him at gone 11pm, woke him out of bed and offered him $250 if he would sell it to him instead of me? *rolls eyes*

I think I got a better saw in the end though. So yeah, it all evens out in the end. ;)

I missed out on a Deere 430 (garden, not the old farm tractor) for $1000 a few months ago. It needed a little work and a side panel, but it would have still been well worth it. I could have sold my 318 for more than what I would have given for the 430!

Around here there are mechanics schools so there are an occassional burst of SO tools for sale. Caught a newly posted ad at around 8pm. Called him, got the address and time for an early next day Saturday morning buy. It was for not 1 but 2 brand new SO 8 pc screwdriver sets (list $130) NIB for.....$75. Drive 25 miles and get there at the stated time, he tells me over the phone he sold them the night before to some guy down the street.

There was once a early 1900s 20" bandsaw on CL thaw was said to be in working order for $50. I emailed but never got a response and the ad was pulled a little later. Someone got a good deal. Probalby better for me as I already have too much stuff to restore.

The really good deals will be swarmed on within an hour, sometimes just minutes. GeorgiaHybrid got a monster deal on a compressor, and he caught that ad four minutes after post time. Just the luck of the draw and persistance.
