Though I was never a connoisseur of bottle opener's I followed along for the ride. I am sorry to hear that it didn't work out for everyone.

It was a gallant effort by all those involved trying to get the purchase accomplished.

That might happen sooner than you think! My son and his family live in Royal Oak. We get down there every 2-3 weeks!!

Oh nice! Hit me up! We're still being covid-cautious since we have a newborn and my wife has some past health issues that make her a higher than average risk, but socially distant garage beers never hurt anyone, right?

And thanks again to Pizza for dealing with this madness. The thought of sending so many PayPal transactions back to people hurts to think about.

You never know, he could have been risky with it. Maybe he did a quick pump & dump into some Gamestop last week, made out like a bandit, and can make his own knock-off opener now :D

i have watched this closely and was tempted to order one as i enjoy a cold one from a bottle, especially a fine german beer. i even have a few knipex items.

however, this is a shitshow and one i find appalling. to those that attempted to make this work, hats off. to those that put money down, same thing. to those at knipex who gave a large group of people nothing and then refused to communicate at the end? they y deserve a big middle finger.

to those that drool over every knipex item, i would think twice. knipex doesn't have to deliver on a limited edition tool, we all know that. they could offer an explanation and or an apology and am offer to be included on the next one (all things that cost nothing) but instead you got crickets.

how hard is it to say? sorry, but we will try and include you next time.

first, i'd like to thank Formerjeeper for trying his high-level contact at knipex usa. it ultimately didn't work, but it was a good effort.

Pizza, keep half of my funds, please. Your time has to be worth something!

haha, thanks. but everyone gets full refund! ;)

If you pass thru Grand Rapids, happy to buy you a beer , that is if the taps are flowing.

to you and the other MI people, i actually do spend time in MI every year. it's a great state! got some acreage about 20mi SE of Flint, and i do often pass through Grand Rapids on my way to/from IL.

hmm

just fwiw, knipex did give an explanation, but they didn't respond to my final communication where i asked them to reconsider based on the evidence i presented showing i'm not a (for-profit) reseller. this final message also asked if they'd be willing to help next year for version 4 of the opener if this year isn't possible:

they weren't dicks imo, but obviously i'm still disappointed.
aaaand i'm still going to email them at the end of 2021 to try again. lol

One important detail, you can only order one. So you might as well say $50 each. I was hoping to order 3-4 to diminish the shipping, but forget that.

$30 was pushing as it was, but $50 is more than I spent on bottle top beer last year.

I agree, $50 is not for me

Hi all,

just to let you know the problem with this bottle opener:

This is not an official retail item available to dealers. I thought so, but this is not true. You (and I) can only order this through the Knipex fan shop. I ordered a few and when more people asked for them I ordered 50 and prepayed them. Not a good idea as they cancelled my order because I was going to resell them. And I never got my money back either.

So every once in a while I get a few but never more at a time.

And about the shipping costs: Due to Covid all shipping routes are closed except for Express shipping. So the cheapest option to the US is 19.99$ and that is below my cost. So I fully understand that it is not reasonable for a cheap item but if I knew another way I'd be very happy myself.

What about JP? Or if they prefer "individual" orders can we ask for combined shipping to an overseas (USA) point and distribute from there?

How about being completely honest and as a last resort link them to this thread? I'd save that as "the nuclear option."

I would be very happy to help all of you but Knipexfans does not deliver to me and does not like any resellers. So it is not me not wanting to sell higher quantities, it is just that nobody can get hands on more than a few at a time.

hi JP! nice to see you here. i had a similar experience, and i don't think a group buy (or broad international distribution) is ever going to be possible with their current policies. you are doing the international tool fan community a big favor by making these available on your site, even in limited quantity. thank you.

i can't believe they didn't refund you, though. that's not fair! lol

WOW! I suppose I never use that credit card feature that lets you fight a charge, but I definitely would be then. I thought the German tool companies were top of their game, but seem to be slacking in certain customer service areas.

I believe they simply forgot. It's a company in the company run by apprentices. Maybe that is also the reason for the strange policy not to sell this item to other countries.

What I will probably do is to add one free of charge to Knipex orders in my store over a certain value. I mean a price of 50$ shipped is too much and then I am not really making money on that either. Currently I need to work around their business policies to get my hands on any. And that is not good for a Knipex dealer as well.

Thanks for all the info, Jens.

It seems so odd to me that Knipex wouldn't want to capitalize on this? Even if they only broke even on it (which I'm willing to bet is easily accomplished), it creates a ton of buzz and customer goodwill. Just feels like a huge miss on their part. And the fact that they're not doing right by their local dealers doesn't seem right. Love their products but they could use a better marketing/business development department.

I like Knipex as much as anybody but 16 pages about the saga of trying to buy some bottle openers is beyond crazy. Makes me less likely to buy Knipex tools if I’m being honest even though I have a ton of them and think they’re great. All the work “pizza”put in too. I feel bad for all involved. I don’t get it at all. It’s like they thought you were going to scalp them on EBay or something - like the PS5 or Xbox Series X. “Pizza” the guy who paid for his kids college with black market Knipex bottle openers. Unbelievable!!!

Even if they couldn't make it happen for this years, seems weird they wouldn't do the easy thing and say 'Hey, we can't fulfill the demand this year but now that we know it's there we'll make sure these make it to the North American market too in sufficient quantities." They ship enough stuff here as it is!

I even said I would buy them and give them away as a present for good customers, but no chance. I think I will add the few I have to larger Knipex orders from now on.
