Hello, I am wanting to install a 4 post car lift in my garage. But I need to raise my garage door. Looking for advise from anyone that has done this on your own.

I found this site.

ddmgaragedoors.com

Seems helpful

I did this at our last house. Basically turned my small 2 car into a 3 car. After providing measurements ddmgaragedoors.com provided a kit. Did the change in a weekend. Definitely want to take care unwinding and winding the torsion bars springs.

I did it on my own. I ran my tracks up at an angle, and they don't make drums for that. My door is a Wayne Dalton, and it appears they don't make any high lift drums for that wayne dalton spring either. I maybe mistaken. I haven't called them.

I did mine myself as well. Bought it from DDM garage doors and can’t say enough how great that company is. To get a kit for your door, they have you fill out a sheet with dimensions for them. With that info, they put a kit together for your application. They even tell you how winds are needed for your kit to balance the door. I had a few questions and was able to quickly get answers from them. Turned out great. Winding and unwinding garage door torsion springs is damn dangerous. Watch all their videos. They helped a ton.

My door is Wayne Dalton and the spring torsion bar had to be replaced with standard style bar with separate torsion springs and needed to use high lift drums.

I was quoted $1500 by a garage door company.. bought the parts for under $300

Wow. I just had Overhead Door Co convert my 16'x7' to a high-lift for just over $300 a few months ago (parts included). They handled the track work and springs, I handled the operator and had everything framed out and ready for them.

If you have a gable roof that the park runs parallel to the door you could do this. I designed the door tracks and the door company made them. 600# springs were needed to lift the door the new height
