swing out exterior door

Building an airplane hangar and want an exterior door that swings out. I have been told that a swing out door is no good cus all the bad guy has to do is drive out the hinge pins and through the door on the ground.

Anybody confronted with this problem?

Door may be easy to take off hinges but pins can be welded in place. The door will be impossible to kick in though

If you get snow or have smart-*** friends it will be blocked

That’s how I fixed mine. When we moved in, there was a downstairs door that was hidden from the street. I switched it around to swing outward so it couldn’t be kicked in. Solid cord door, Three 4 inch fixed pin hinges. One inch throw deadbolt. So far no attempted intrusions.

Use an NRP hinge with security tab.

Also install a latch guard.

As others have already said: non-removable hinge pin and a security stud. You can get the hinges with a tab, but I have found they dont always engage fully. I prefer to mod the hinge and add the stud myself so I get a lot of engagement. Have had good lock with these from sovilok

fire/emergency exit doors swing out all the time, they use NRP (non removable pin) hinges.
they have a set screw that mates into a groove cut in the hinge pins.

with anything, if they want in bad enough, and they have enough time, they will get in...

Look into commercial doors. Where I work, every exterior door is an out swing door. Come to think of it, I don’t ever remember going to a commercial building that had in swing doors.

Just did a clad Pella w/ out-swing ..... they have a variety of hinges that can't be removed. I like the type with the stub that contacts internally.

Pella also has the three point lock system available

Not really... An inswing door has the weather stripping on the outside of the door and it is less prone to water intrusion. A outswing door has the weather stripping on the inside of the door and the door is not sealed on its face and so the door it more prone to water damage and rot if the door is wood core.

We have outswing French doors on our master bedroom and they have fixed hinges where the pins cannot be driven out. There is also a security plate that covers the latch so it is less likely to be attacked.

As stated throughout the thread these are common especially in commercial applications. Emergency exit doors swing out and not in.

If you have an accumulation of snow, it will block the doors swing.

Either buy hinges with a set screw or drill and tap for one, if the door needs to be taken off the set screw is easily backed out with the door open.

We have an outswing door to our back covered patio.

The builder put "security" hinges on... they were garbage. I replaced with commercial ball bearing hinges with a real fixed pin...

I was going to go through the motions to get some plates for the latch side to keep prying/cutting attacks down, but then I realized the whole damn door is a glass panel...surrounded by giant windows... so...

My builder brought up the "weather ingress" issue and I said "if its wet enough 10' under my roof line that I am getting water ingress through this door, I got bigger problems"...

Commercial buildings have out-swinging doors for fire safety evacuation reasons. Hinges with non-removeable pins are common for this reason. Given how easy it is to punch through the siding next to the door on residential buildings, the hinge pins are the least of your security concerns.

I have a swing out door, and this. If your door frame is fairly deep, you may need to purchase the longer L-bolts like I did. If you are a fabricator, this should be fairly easy to build yourself.
