Marson HP-2 hand riveter question

I have a Marson HP-2 hand riveter. I got it used. It's an older model, made in USA.

Otherwise the same as:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00063Y1F6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

With an aluminum rivet, 5/32 size, the initial pass requires medium force. The second pass (which cuts the shank) requires quite a bit of force but does work but when it cuts it's a bit of a 'shock' moment.

My issue is that I bought some 3/16 stainless rivets. Using the tool the first compression requires a lot of force (unsurprising, stainless vs aluminum). It does pull the rivet correctly for seating but the force required for the second cut pass is more than I can achieve.

My question is whether something is worn in the tool, or if it's just not that great for stainless pop rivets?

I've had a HP-2 for 20 yrs now, has never gave me a problem. The HP-2 is only rated up to 5/32" for stainless rivets. 3/16" only aluminum & steel.

Yeah, the OPs original single-hand (even if you are using two hands with it) squeeze tool is NOT going to do 3/16" stainless rivets.

The Astro PR14 should be able to do it. :D

(Astro does make hand riveters that can do 3/16" stainless rivets. But the pneumatic PR14 should make doing those rivets a no-fuss task. Just need an air compressor and an air line. )

I appreciate you supporting for my tool buying habit :D

I picked up this for $55 best offer.

They assured me it's brand new, fully working with all the accessories. I am a bit suspicious of how they came across 7 damaged boxed items. We shall see. They have 4 left.
