I didn't even know they made em that big, sounds expensive.

One option is to make your own. Buy some 4140 or tool steel 1" bar stock & harden yourself if needed. Would be way cheaper I assume.

Mayhew does make a 1/2" pin punch, but that's the largest they offer, I didnt know they had one that large.

All of the larger punches I have (depending on material & type) are home made, usually from a chunk of tie rod (Dodge & Jeep actually). These are around an inch dia. or a but more, dont have the exact diameter offhand.

A cheap no name 1/2 ratchet with the head cut off also works well for something around 1/2-5/8" with a knurled grip.

Like Mike Tyson huge? Or something a bit less than that? I've been skipping arm day for a little while, but give me $10 and I'll see what I can do.

Drift and starter punches can be cut from typical alignment pry bars. For larger sizes, spud bars are another choice.

There are a lot of items that are called punches. You have to be a bit more specific on what you want. Also what part of the punch do you want to measure at one inch?

Start here https://www.mcmaster.com/punches and identify what your talking about

I make them out of things I come across. Ive made several out of old struts. Last one I made out of a fire hydrant valve rod. Its ginormous.

On the ship, I'd send you to the HT shop and tell them you want the biggest punch they have!

On the carrier that I was on we a had an HT that was a semi pro boxer.... I sent more than 1 smart smartassed boot to see him

If you're after tool steel, an L-key with the short leg cut off would work.
These should be fairly easy to source.

Edited to add: A 7/8 hex is right around 1" diameter/across the corners.

I was thinking a sheet metal punch like Greenlee. Be careful. These are sized for th OD of the conduit, so a 1" punch is actually larger than 1" !

Good point... a "punch" can be one of several types of tools.

The GJ Hive Mind is going to need some details. We appear to have frightened the OP into hiding.

Will your coworkers let you take a picture of their punches? We can help you better if we can see what it is you are looking for.

Backing Out Punches (B&O Hammer or BOPs) - Use to drive out pins that hold together two pieces of equipment-like a backhoe shovel to the arm.
A word about Backing Out Punches. These tools should be struck only with hammers of lesser hardness. DO NOT strike this tool with a steel sledge hammer- the hammer or sledge could explode and/or fragment causing severe injury or death. USE A BRASS OR COPPER HAMMER WHEN STRIKING A PUNCH.

I was not aware that they made punches with a handle like that. I have used pliers to hold punches when I was not comfortable holding the punch, like when somebody else was swinging the hammer.

I have a big ol' 1" hex key I ended up with that might get cut into a punch. I've looked into what is out there from Mayhew and others, and large straight punches aren't really available to order, just need to build out of what's available.

I have made some on the lathe out of old breaker chisels but not as big as 1" you may find you need to temper the struck end if it starts to chip.

I have seen old 3/4" or 1" drive extensions used for punches, put through a hole drilled in a pipe to act as a handle.
