Been lurking for a few weeks, this is my first post...

We're in the permitting process on a new house and detached garage. This site is a great resource for ideas on finishing out the garage. I've been drooling over the photos in the gallery section.

We're probably 2-3 months away from breaking ground, once we get to that point, I'll likely be posting more.

Thanks everyone! Hope we can make it work... bids from contractors are coming in quite a bit higher than expected because of lumber prices. We're at the stage where it would be really hard to pull the plug. We've spent quite a bit of money on wetland study, geological study, survey, design, engineering and permitting. All just to get to the stage of submitting to contractors for bids.

The whole process is so much different than the last time we built a house (25 years ago and in a different state). Then the contractor just handled everything, we bought a set of plans for a few hundred bucks, the contractor took that to the county, paid a fee of a few hundred bucks and walked out with a building permit. This time around we'll be in about $60K before we even break ground, not including the cost of the lot itself (which we've owned for years).

Welcome! Snohomish is a nice place and I enjoy hanging out near 1st street and the river. I lived in the county for 8 years, near the Mukilteo ferry station.
