I'm still fairly new here but really enjoying my time thus far and will probably stick around for quite some time.

I've used various forums over the years (and helped moderated a couple) that were powered by vBulliten just like this one. I noticed a couple of missing features here that I'd love to see added/implemented if at all possible.

Firstly, there is no option to "like" someones post/reply/comment which I am very surprised about. Figured that was basically standard to include on any popular forum such as this one.

The other feature I love about other vB forums I've used is the option to receive email notifications if somebody quotes you. Maybe it's hidden somewhere, but I couldn't seem to find it anywhere.

Hopefully these things could be discussed by the admin team and possibly brought in if it's not too much of a hassle.

For the email notifications, it's under User CP> Edit Options>Messaging and Notifications>Default Thread Subscription. Go to the selection window and the choice is there.

That is for subscribing to a thread which I know how to do and already have a few in my list. I'd like the option of being notified if someone quotes any of my posts/replies without needing to subscribe to the entire thread.

Sorry, I've been busy and not around much. Did your question get answered ?

No, not exactly. Was only directed to the tread which mentions the next planned platform for the forum which will be moving away from vBulletin. With that being the case, I can understand there wouldn't be much incentive to start altering this platform when the plan is to switch to something else.

Ryan owns another forum HAMB and it's been switched to Xenforo already. I believe it has a "LIKE" button but I'm not positive on it.

For the only features, I'm not a member over at HAMB, I can't answer how well or how things work. It's going to be a learning process for all of us when the switch comes.

We should be going to Xenforo soon... Once done, you will get all those features.

Good morning Ryan. I'm no programmer. I have a working mans question.
Will we be able to use the search function once the change is made and access information on the old format along with the new format? We won't loss all of this information here right?
Am I making sense?

I have never seen a new person join a forum that has tens of thousands of members, and millions of posts ...Join said forum and within a few weeks ask for the administration to change it to something they like.

Shame on you new guy. Learn some damn manners.

I want a like button too. I think it would be nice to like a cool post. I’ve got a lot of manners and am not trying to stir the pot. I thought the above post was pretty negative. Maybe be kind ? Everyone’s different and has different need and wants that’s what makes us great.

I've already walked away from three forums that changed formats. Not interested in starting over. I don't sit at my computer all day to learn a new system.

In all actuality, RobertHaas is a good member with a ton of knowledge that he is quite willing to share.

Believe it or not, what he said is typical of the membership here that takes care of their own. The guys and girls here love this forum, enough that it basically self moderates.

You are in good company when you log in to GJ.

I agree and I’ve enjoyed his posts. I’m certainly not looking to make waves with less than 80 posts.

I do see the value of a like button because it allows others to see that people enjoyed the post. I get that change is hard and respect is earned.

This forum seems to be full of friendly and knowledgeable folks which is a big part of why I registered here. A great resource for info on tools, learning new things and sharing tricks/ideas/opinions/etc on a good platform. Certainly a good thing that this forum has going for it.

Sadly, his comment to my suggestions being "typical of the membership" is a little disheartening, but I can understand that change is difficult and most people don't like it. With that being said, the plans to switch to a completely new platform is a FAR bigger change than the small features I brought up. A like button is so small and simple yet can really help show how engaged members are. I've come across dozens of threads, posts and comments in my short time here that I would have clicked the LIKE button for. Currently the only option is to quote the post you like and agree which can cause threads to get filled up with essentially "useless" posts and make pertinent info more difficult to find.

Not sure if you're being serious with your post, or just commenting for fun. Regardless, sometimes fresh eyes/thoughts/opinions can bring in great ideas that serve meaningful purpose.

I have tens of thousands of posts on various forums on the vB platform so I know the "changes" I suggeted are literally selectable options in the admin section and not at all difficult to implement. They are small quality of life options/features.... it's not like I suggeted a complete overhaul of things.

Shame on you for trying to make a new guy feel bad for bringing up ideas in a section of the forum specifically intended for ANY member to make general suggestions or ask forum related questions.

You got no chill bro...

It's just a message board... Enjoy it or use another... No big deal.
