Where does the computer screen go? That's cool. I'm still regretting one I passed up at a antique/junk mall in Havre de Grace, MD a few years ago. It was older with a wood top that was angled like a pulpit.

I wouldn't call that small. I like the size. Only a 100 miles from me but I can't get it in my car. Sorry. Rule of thumb. Nothing I can't deal with.

I got it :)

It is very solid, no rot. Just some surface rust. I will carefully clean, stabilize and preserve it. But now I have to rearrange my downstairs shop and get rid of some junk to make room for it.

So how old do you think it is? 1950s? Maybe earlier?

I noticed the tag has a 5 digit zip code. This practice started in 1963, so it has to be after that. But the basic design probably goes back decades.

I'm no expert by any means, but just looking at the style I'd guess late forties/early fifties.

Nice buy. I think I would've gotten that too.

I was surprised my two Shure benches with wood tops that look like cousins are still offered today. They're on the website.

After cleaning, I started gently polishing it to remove the heavy oxidation. I did the corner here. Not a huge difference, but noticeable.

That big decal on the front door seems to be paper-based, not vinyl. It is deteriorating and fragile. I'm wondering what to do with it. Maybe coat it with some type if sealer? I could probably remove it without harm to the underlying paint. But expect that would leave a brighter white square that could not be blended to the remaining surface.

Thoughts, suggestions on what to do?

Maybe clean around it and spray it with a clear coat. Should at least stabilize it.

I’d probably try to carefully remove it and see what it looks like underneath. If it left an obvious spot where it had been I would like for a period correct shop sticker. Maybe something like an old Champion spark plugs, Bear alignment or an older gas station decal.

How old do you think that sticker is? I'm thinking 1980s.

Judging by the layout, font and color scheme, I’d agree that it is 80’s or newer. Reminds me a lot of ads in some of the car magazines I used to see from back in the 80’s.

I decided to remove the sticker. It wasn't too hard. Using GooGone and a plastic scraper it came off with no damage to the underlying paint in about 20 minutes. But there was quite a bit of shadow remaining. I worked the area pretty good with rubbing compound. That blended it pretty well. A little shadow remains, but I'm reluctant to go further. I think it looks much better, but will continue to work on other areas. But I don't expect it to get much better. It has earned its patina.

I have some old toolboxes in similar shape that I can't bring myself to restore and paint.

I'd be jumping at redoing that desk though. Those original colors would really pop with a fresh spray.

If it had sat outside and was all rusty, I would strip and repaint it. But with 95% of the original paint intact, I'd much rather preserve it.

Here is the before and after. I probably put about 5 hours into cleaning, polishing and waxing. It's not a big difference, but it's a noticeable improvement.
