FB MP Deal - FREE - Livonia, MI

Looks like a sweet old desk on casters in fantastic shape:

"Very old steel office desk from 1950s or 60s. Extremely heavy. Great for a shop or other industrial office space. Needs to be moved up stairs from basement. "

Wow, that's a nice looking desk!

Mike

It is! And it's only 20 minutes away but I have no need/space for it nor do I currently have a means to transport it, though for free I'd rent something no problem.

Hope someone on here can give it a good home!

GForce, I would try to get it as these tank desks are actually really good for a shop and very versatile.
You can easily take it apart by yourself as most are all just bolted together including the feet. I know its sacrileges but I've abandoned the top and everything else and used the drawer sections and have bolted them under my work bench and also recently used one with casters on it to use as a base for my drill press. Works awesome. The desk can easily be taken upstairs when taken apart, take the drawers out to lighten cabinets. If you have roof racks, you strap the top to it and cabinets inside.

The drawers have heavy duty ball bearing slides that are similar to Lista cabinet. They can be bomb proof, here is pics of my recent free score although slightly newer than the desk above but same principal and I have done it a couple of times on ones like yours. I was able to fit two desk and tops inside my station wagon although the tops were 100 lbs each (3" solid hard maple).

Just the drawers placed on a storage rack or under your work bench make for great fastener storage and heavy items that normal drawers cant handle.
Although something to consider these drawer cabinets are 30" deep so you need a workbench or storage shelves that deep but they can hold a ton of items and more than typical mechanics tool boxes.

Good to know! I actually did seriously think about it but I think my wife will have my head if I come home with anything that isn't a dumpster as we're trying to finish off a few home projects and really get the house cleaned and organized - aka not bringing home more stuff! I've always like this style of desk though...

I sent the lady a message but it's currently pending so we'll see what happens. I just happened to catch it within minutes of being posted so I definitely could've had it. Hopefully it works out! :)

MAC: Hoe did you get that desk top into your car???

Also, is this one of the same quality as yours? And, does it also come apart?

Would not be surprised! Haha I suspect a few others on here might chime in to let us know they're a lot more than just twins.

Unfortunately I heard back the desk was still available but it was gone before she got back to my asking for an address.

Oh well...at least I know how easy they can be taken apart for next time!

FREE Monarch 10EE lathe! Newport Beach, CA

December 1940 10” x 20” Monarch 10EE lathe, free with conditions.

Another GJ member kindly told me about this lathe yesterday so I cant take credit finding it but thought I should share it. I would assume you would have to give a very good and convincing story to be given this lathe, not to mention the must need to hire a certified and insured machinery mover no exceptions.

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a smaller machinist lathe. I sent them a message and will see what happens. Also getting a quote from a rigger to load it onto my trailer.

WHOA once in a lifetime score if it's in even decent shape.

Wow. In Michigan a 10EE half rusted into the ground would probably still be 5k. There are so many MASSIVE lathes readily available in Michigan and Ohio but the smaller footprint ones go for ridiculous $$$. People want 2-4k for small Atlas and Southbend lathes. It's madness.

Hope you're able to get it, Eric!

Well, I FOUND this on CL, unfortunately, it was gone before I ever heard back from the seller...

Agree, it should never be considered a normal DP but really good for making holes at an angle in Large creative pieces and needing long reach.
