....it's about to get worse. I just got a call from my Schneider (Square D) Rep. They have to reduce production for the next 6 weeks due to resin shortages.

They had ramped up to ~130% of last year's production rate, but are now going to have to go back to only 100% until the mess at the Tx/La chemical plants can be straightened out.

Oh, and they're pushing a 12% increase to the market too.

Not just electrical, but PEX too. We’ve been scrambling for Uponor product for several weeks now. Not a single 1/2” ell in Ferguson inventory so I have resorted to Amazon but they will run out eventually.

My supply talked to southwire about ordering 12/2 nm, they wouldn't take the order as they were 275 million ft in the hole :shocking: Apparently plastic resin suppliers can't supply the stuff needed to make outer sheath. His search led to 583 bucks thousand NM in limited quantities and its probably more than that today

We recently ran into romex issues in Inland Empire in Ca. Distributor (United) is sold out and doesn't expect new inventory until May.

Oh, and a $0.17 box is now running $0.35....

I was finally able to order a quad 20/50 amp breaker yesterday that has been out of stock everywhere for the last 2-3 months. Had to drive all over the place to find plastic old work boxes last week, too.

A 250' roll of 12/2 was up about $20 from when I bought some in January. And let's not even talk about the price of wood....

But I better check on breakers tomorrow after I dropped and broke that 30A breaker.

The wood issue is even a problem here, America has been buying it from Scandinavia, driving the price way up and supply issues have occurred, plus our own demand is way up.
We couldn't get any 4.8m or 6m 2x4 a few weeks ago, the local suppliers had run out.
We got a whole pack of 3.6m in, Scandinavian timber imported via an Austrian distributor.
We had to wait a couple weeks for 38mm commercial chipboard flooring, usually a stock item but the country had run out entirely and everyone was waiting for the same ship to come from Europe.

The cold rolled steel suppliers (steel purlins, joists etc for steel buildings) have also pretty much run out of coil stock and are weeks behind in some cases.

I've got a van full of breakers, hopefully they can keep up with panels.

I thought my shelf of breakers and 4 extra panels would be enough for my personal shop and home...

Didnt figure I had to hoard a whole van full. :lol_hitti

Electrical Contractor here.

Emt has gone nuts if but no supply issues yet as far as I know, romex there isn't much out there and just after Christmas I bought 128 150m rolls at 115 a piece, now its 160 if you can get it. Retail is between 90 and 102 for 75m (250 ft) Breakers have been an issue all year and now my sales rep says no new orders on panels for 4 to 6 months. Generators are 20-28 weeks from briggs and stratton, pvc is being rationed and some wholesalers are even checking Id's to make sure your from the area if you want a big order of something. Boxes have gone up 26 percent and vapor barries 30 percent and there is no delivery dates at all.I may have to start laying guys off for lack of materials if things keep going so who knows.

My supplier is going on allocation for rigid conduit starting Monday, they don't know what the allocation is going to be except its based on last 2 years of buying. They were also told Square D looks to meet 60% of last years production WTF

Yep, I bought a 250' roll in January for $65 and thought I didn't have enough to finish my garage so I bought another for $85. I didn't end up needing any but I went back to Home Depot for some outlets and boxes and now the same roll is over $100.

Unfortunately I came up one sheet of OSB short and that's going to cost me :(

Other than that, all that's left to do is insulate the roof and thankfully that doesn't seem to have gone up yet.

Not sure about in the states but according to my wholesalers, Homedepot has spoken for all 14/2 Romex production for the year from Southwire.

Hopefully all this will slow down the house flippers around here. If only there would be a shortage of friggin' gray paint...

I doubt it will slow them down. It will just lead to some real shoddy electrical in those houses with a bunch of splices hidden so they can use what ever scrap pieces they can find.

God I get 10-20 calls or text every week.....I want to buy your house.
Freak'n Flippers go thru the tax rolls and call every swinging D*ck that does not have a homestead exemption on a home. That is how they know it is a second home or a Rental.

they will keep at it because prices are a lot cheaper to get a used home than build a New one ATM.

Holy ****. I paid $66/250ft for 12/2 back in December, now $96. Paid $138/250ft 10/2 now $201!!!!!

I spent ~$1k for all the electrical supplies in my shop, looks like I'd spend at least $500 now just 4 months later. Crazy.

Neighbor just put the brakes on his shop build, Right after he got the concrete poured. He went to buy the lumber for the build and it's going up 5% per week, OSB for the sheathing and roof deck went up $4/sheet in the last 2 weeks- it's now 42.65/sheet for 15/32
I think he's going to try to wait it out now that its getting hot anyway- so maybe in the fall it will be a little less. So for now he has a nice dance floor :)

Hope people don’t start going around stealing breakers now from houses, I remember when I was younger it happend a bunch in our area cause all the panels were Zinsco and that brand was so proprietary at the time.

If you're going to need any in the next several months and can still get it for that price, you should buy all you can.
It will be go much higher.

Nah, I'm good with the 250' rolls I bought back in 2020 for $60. I stopped doing any side work because of price hikes. Anything I have will be used for my own projects or close family.

There is a Schneider Bros. (formally Sq D) assembly plant near me, I have been driving past it since the 1960's so it has been there a while. It was one of those places that you had to know someone inside to get a job there. Last fall there were small "help wanted signs out front, something that I had never seen before. Today I drove by and the were several large (maybe 8'x12') signs out front. "Assembly Help Wanted" with a long list of benefits. I guess people are getting paid too much to sit at home all day.

If they can't get gray paint, they'll just use white paint so everything else looks exactly like the kitchen and bathrooms.

Or worse, they'll use more of the blue-gray, orange, or chartreuse that they currently use for "accent" painting. That's what we need, everything slathered in heavily saturated dark colors that take three coats of paint to hide, like it's 2005 all over again. Bonus points if they go Martha Stewart and sponge paint it on like they did in 2005.

At least we can be assured they won't go 1970s on us with putting up wood paneling since you can't get it either...
