Wide wheels and rubber looks great. How does it hook up?

Thanks Justin!

We got 6" of snow this weekend....so not worth a damn right now :lol_hitti

Honestly the car hasn't moved from that spot since Wednesday night last week, and probably won't for another week. We aren't going to see anything above 20* for quite a while. :shocking:

Question for those who follow along. I've been considering starting a Projects Thread on the Fab/Techniques part of the forum. Does that make it easier for everyone else to follow along, or is it more cumbersome with 2 threads?
:dunno:
No sure what to say. You have completed your build some time ago and this thread has a lot of project stuff in it already.
I split mine about when I completed the construction.

Marc, I did the same as Justin, split the shop build and moved on to the Shop Projects upon completion of the shop. That was my original plan however. Not sure what to tell you at this point as the majority now seems to be shop projects and work in the shop.

For having a blue oval on the front....car doesn't look too shabby ;)

And thanks for taking that snow down south....we got maybe 4" total from Fri night to this AM across a couple rounds....but the 5 degrees over lunch hour while picking up groceries and it being warm compared to tomorrow is just brrrrr!

Thanks for weighing in guys...I have a potential big project coming up if I can find the right stuff. That might be a good time to start a new thread.

Thanks Logan

It's still dropping some light powder here today. Yes, the 5* lunch run is garbage, I think our current wind-chill is around -4*. This weekend looks like total cold garbage too. I had the 'burb in the shop all weekend, so I started out the morning at a cozy 54* resting temp. At lunch time the big block didn't care for the 50* swing in temp.

I will also comment that the wife's Tacoma continues to impress me on the ice and snow. I have yet to put it in 4WD. Tires have some to do with that, but as a whole package, it just works.

What size tires did you go with on the Mach 1 again Marc? I really like the look of them, it was always a shame they didn't put wider tires on the v8 cars from the factory.

Just my two cents, keep the projects on this thread, that is what I've done as have many others, it seems to help keep everything in order in my head at least. Now if you have a subject you want to dive into and get knowledge from others like say how to rewire a lathe to run a VFD I'd get a new thread for the Q&A then put the build on here.

Thanks, JB! Tires are a 315/35R17 size. I totally agree, Ford missed the boat with the narrow wheel/tire packages.

Noted on the new thread!

Probably time for an update.

Put a new brake controller in the Suburban, old one was shot. I went with the Tekonsha Primus IQ, made up a removable harness to connect in with the current wiring.

Mounted it in a better spot than the previous unit, now it is no longer an obstacle when entering the 'burb.

Sold my Bobcat 642 skid steer this weekend. In the 4 years I've owned it, I haven't put enough hours on it to make it worth the space it takes up. A utility tractor will suit my needs better. Something with a 3-point and the capability to use a brush cutter/rotary mower. John Deere is out immediately (even though I used to sell them) due to their proprietary loader attachement setup. All the other major brands have a skid steer quick tach setup. Went down a rabbit hole and learned more about the Korean built tractors. Turns out, they know what they're doing. I've settled on the Branson brand, they are heavier (good for a tractor, not a racecar...unless you're in the salt), have mechanical controls for the engine(no ecu), and have higher capacity ratings in the class of tractor I'm looking to buy. A 6 year powertrain warranty doesn't hurt either.

Currently stuck between a 2021 model 2515H and a carryover 2019 3515H. Same frame, 10 engine HP difference. No DPF filter on the 2515H, but its not a difficult thing to work around on the 3515H. Money is close....haha, what to do? I don't "need" 10 extra HP for what I will be using the tractor for, but it will run a rotary cutter better for sure, in thick grass. Both tractors weigh in just over 4K lbs with the loader (same as my old skid steer), and can lift 2200lbs with the loader to pin height. Or do I put the money difference into rear SCV's(hyd remotes) and a 3rd function setup for the loader on the 2515H....wow, what a 1st world problem, right?!:willy_nil

I don't know why but tractor shopping is the best lol.

It sounds like your settled on a Branson, but do you know they make adaptors to go on Deere loaders to use SSQA attachments? Just a thought in case that was limiting your field of options.

As for your Branson choices, that's a tough one for me. Normally I'd say take the extra power every time, but the DPF on the newer one would make me really hesitant to go that route. Enough that I'd probably go for the 2515H.

JGG, thanks for the reply. I am aware of the adapter, but I'm not willing to spend the $10K premium for the green & yellow paint, only to have to buy an adapter to use common attachments. Mother Deere has perfected making money over the years, can't fault them at that. :dunno:

The DPF system on the Branson's is its own stand alone setup, and easy to remove. It's also a "passive" system with no regen per say. It just needs to be operated hot enough if the light on the dash flashes to burn the soot out. Removing the "brain box" and DPF filter has no other ill effects on the tractor. The engine itself is a mechanical Cummins.

Branson is also currently making the new line up of Bad Boy Tractors that are being released this year. Branson has received high marks from its dealers, and the dealer network is expanding.

I hear you there on the green paint premium. I picked up a can of Deere yellow spraypaint the other day to do some touchups; 50% more than a regular brand just because it's from Deere. Yet there still seems to be new Deere equipment everywhere.

If the DPF system can be removed then I would be more inclined to go that route. But you have to be careful doing that as it can void the warranty. I'm not familiar with what Branson offers for a warranty but I imagine it's at least a few years?

For the record, I don't have anything against Deere, I think they make great equipment, and in another life made me a great paycheck.

6 Year Powertrain, 2 Year Bumper to Bumper on the Branson line of tractors.

I understand about the warranty, and that's what I mean by easy to get around...if I have to, I can put it all back to stock.

That looks like a really nice tractor, we have a dealer in town here. I'd certainly be looking favorably at something like that (no ECU, etc) if you're looking at a brand that isn't proven to be a long term player in the market. Reparability goes way up at that point IMHO.

I find about 10 reasons a year to buy a little tractor but in reality I'd like ot just have one to play with lol

Busy weekend.

Oldest son and I were on the road @ 5:50am headed to pick up a tractor. Stopped in Des Moines, IA on the way back through and had a late lunch with my oldest nephew...he was the one a few pages back with the Subaru. We made it home about 12hrs later with a new tractor.

Went for the bigger unit, 3515H, wiser heads prevailed, and it made sense to have more HP in the frame. Tractor is bigger physically than I realized, but will make a nice addition to the "farm". I'm truly amazed at how well the tractor is put together, and how beefy it is, they definitely did their homework.

Sunday I pulled the 'burb in the shop and dropped the oil out of the engine and the transfer case. Decided to go back with the Rotella 5w40 T6 instead of the 0w40 Castrol, I didn't notice any change with the Castrol and the Rotella has a better add pack for the old big block. Still only consumed 1qt in 5k miles, so not terrible by any means. Someone has been into the NP243 transfer case at some point, and filled it with automatic ****** fluid...this is an AutoTrac unit, that GM specifies a different fluid for, its not cheap, and it's blue. I've had 2 bottles on the shelf for a few months and finally forced myself to get it done. Fill hole is in a dumb place, so it takes a while to fill it back up. Last but not least, I replaced all four shocks with new Bilstein 4600s. All 4 were still in working order, but the bodies were starting to rust, and were easier to cycle than the new ones.

Nice score on the tractor Marc. Looks like a nice unit.

Thanks Mike! I did my usual ton of research on the brand before pulling the trigger. I like that it is totally mechanical, no computers on the Cummins engine. It will suit our needs well, and comes with the security of a 6 year powertrain warranty.

Think you will end up loving that new tractor. It is amazing how much work they can help out with on your property. Projects pop up that you weren’t even aware of! Of course, add a backhoe and your fun can be further expanded especially with a thumb on it! This set up comes in handy when cutting fire wood too:

You and Sifan made me laugh with the family, friends, organizations volunteer list of which I’m all too familiar with along with that “it will only take 10 minutes” comment!!!

Have fun with your new tractor and stay safe!

Thanks Odis, it will serve more of a purpose and be more useful than the Bobcat skid steer it replaced. A backhoe would get me in trouble!

I grew up with a full lineup of Ag and Commercial equipment including road graders, dozers (flat track open station D8), and a TLB. Even got pulled out of school for a few days by dad when I was around 12 to run a Cat 12 road grader for the county to help clear out snow (dad followed in the D8 to push it further out and drag me out when I got stuck).

Nice machine! That should serve you well for a long time. It's a hydro transmission right? Did you get a backhoe attachment for it?

Thanks! No backhoe at this time. I can rent a local machine a few times for much less than what it would have cost. Plus it would just get me in trouble...haha. It is a 3 range hydro.

You had a great childhood! Growing up, was always fascinated with big equipment. Closest experience for me with equipment you grew up on were my Tonka Toys.

Looks like you are in a beautiful location.

All the best to you.

No argument on the childhood, my dad was a great man and taught me a lot of wonderful lessons, not only in operating equipment/vehicles, but how to be a good and honorable person. As far as growing up with the equipment, I was the "hired man" and it was just "work", I didn't know any different then, but am thankful for the opportunity at this point in my life. My boys are always shocked when their dad who wears slacks to work everyday now, can crawl on a piece of equipment and run it, or drive the neighbors semi full of grain to town. :eyecrazy::lol:

Nice tractor. I bought a similar Kubota last year. There aren't any Branson dealers around here, but I concur that JD charges a premium because they can. I was not impressed with the JD CUT units.

Another great story from a western Nebraska upbringing, Marc. Growing up in a small farming community was a fantastic experience and the successes from my classmates to you and yours are a testament to that.

I learned farm equipment operation from my farmer uncles, backhoes and loaders from my cousin's excavation/crane business and heavy truck and forklifts working for Lockwood Corporation's warehouse department. Never stop doing what you can do!

Not familiar with that particular brand but well aware of how handy the things are so it should serve you well!

And now that you have a built in jack for changing the front tires, you'll be blessed with no more flats...on the front at least!

Good to hear from you Ric! They make tortillas in part of that Lockwood plant now, haha, what a change :dunno: I remember when they were still building equipment there, and then it was bought out by Zimmatic I think, or one of the center pivot manufacturers, but that didn't last long either.

Logan, thanks for the laugh. Lets hope the air stays in the top and bottom of the tire all the way around!:wtf:

Mustang looks great with the new rims!

Part of me wants a mustang... id love a foxbody... or a 69 fastback. But one project at a time!!

I like the shinny tractor too!!

Rudi.

Sent from my SM-G950F using The Garage Journal mobile app

Thanks for stopping in Rudi!

I tried to talk my wife into a notchback foxbody, but I got a strong no on that one. I thought it would be cool to have a 91 Z28 and a 91 foxbody. She would love to have a 69 fastback too, but that's not in the budget :eyecrazy:

Here's a look into with Midwest weather today:

This weekend I got the 3rd mow of the season knocked out. Put the new tractor to work moving stuff and cleaning up around the shop. Still need to get a 5' rotary mower and a box blade picked up. Put new u-joints in the rear driveshaft on the 'burb, rear one was further shot than I realized. Second oil change on the Tacoma. Lots of busy work, more to do around the property this year to get it where I want it. I had tons of winter kill in my yard this year, so I've got some big bare spots up on the hill to work through.

A whole month+ without an update...

My youngest daughter graduated from high school a few weeks ago, and a week later my oldest son promoted/graduated from the 8th grade to a freshman in high school. That stuff and getting ready for the mad rush of people at our house kept me busy.

Yard work has been tough to accomplish, it seems we've been catching A LOT of rain, and with the different fronts moving in, there has been a lot of wind. Enough so, I haven't been able to spray the yard.(weeds are winning) This weekend we finally had some decent weather, so I mowed the rough stuff with the Branson and the acquired 5' mower. Then it was time to do some chainsaw work, trimmed up most of the trees around the property, so now I can mow underneath again without the tree trying to remove me from the mower.

Ordered headliner material for the Z28. SMS Auto Fabrics sent me a sample that was a direct match...the 3 yards of material they sent me did not...so now I'm back to waiting for round 2.

Other than that, I drug out all the fishing gear I haven't used in a VERY long time. Cleaned it up, respooled a few reels with new line, and hopefully will find some time this summer to take the boys fishing.

I'll do a little better at taking pics going forward...maybe.

Glad to hear everything is ok with you and your family Marc. I just thought you were having too much fun on that new tractor and ended up doing all of your neighbor's yardwork when yours was done.
