That looks funny to me. I've only seen a few older (90's) Matco roll cabs and have NEVER seen one like that. Those piss poor aluminum drawer handles resemble nothing "Matco" I've ever seen. And the drawer setup...it looks like a HF/Tractor Supply or vintage snap on style setup. It looks like he simply bought a Matco badge somewhere and stuck it on. Maybe it is real, I don't know, but DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!! I searched a couple older MB1XXX model boxes and came up w/ nothing, so be careful
Think smartlike

From the small pictures it looks like a repainted Matco from the eighties to me. The handles look about right, they run screws through the front of the drawer, into the back of the lengthwise slot to hold them on. The drawers are all open about 1/2" in the first picture. Usually the corner posts hide the ends of the drawer pulls, so you never see the ends with the drawers closed. There should be a label on the top rear of the box, with model number and serial number. Get the serial number and call Matco to see if its legit.

Around here it would have been gone by noon. Better hurry if you're serious.

Well he says outright that its been repainted.

Hammergodthor: so are you saying if its legit its a good deal? Better than a snapon krl661 for 1200? Or are the snapon's really worth that much more

Any large box less than about $1000 around here sells pretty quick. We have a local Craigslist troll who snatches the super cheap ones and re-lists them for $500 more and gets it all day long, up to about $1200. The more expensive stuff sits longer, even if it is a super good deal.

Personally, I think many Snap-On boxes are over valued due to SO having more name recognition. I have a smaller Matco box about the same vintage as this one and its a total tank. Most of those older boxes are built heavier than todays boxes. It just depends on what you want. If it was in my neighborhood and I was in the market, I'd at least go look at it, it seems like a fair price (to me). Make sure its got the serial number on it though. If he painted over it, or its gone, I would definitely pass. Matco will cover (warranty) their slides, wheels and locks for life, but they need the serial number to do anything. (Fine print: check with your local dealer for details, quality of service may differ by location/rep.) Good luck.

That Matco matches the Matco top and bottom Excellerator boxes I just picked up. Mine are OEM hammer gray finish. The badge and drawer pulls are dead nuts match, except my drawer pulls are OEM black. But since this started life as a red box...
No doubt in my mind its genuine, but I wouldnt touch a repaint at that price.

If anyone goes to see this box personally, let us know the results.

The bottom left drawer has 2 pulls its 10 in deep. And there is no warranty unless I'm the original owner so the serial thing really doesn't matter
