If you're like me, ebay is rarely not an open tab in your browser or phone...

Recently I found this beauty

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-On-9-Drawer-Tool-Chest-Box-Cabinet-Like-New-Unused-Cork-Lined/164816484983

She looks to be as mint as any specemin one could hope to find, and $60 for shipping ain't bad at all for a piece this size.

How high will she go?

$750? Over? Under?

Any guesses?

^^^ That's what I was thinking too, why would it have new liners if it saw almost no use?

Well, if old tools keep climbing up like Bitcoin, we might get rich soon : )

$870 and climbing!

The cork liners (according to THE DESCRIPTION) were put in by the owner (who died). Don't know if those came with cork liners originally

As far as shipping for $67, the answer is NO, one can't ship that thing for $67. The seller will just have to eat some of the selling price for shipping. No big deal when it's at $870 with 45min to go

It went for about twice what it might sell for near me, in southwest Virginia. Once spoiled by a Superchest it would be hard to go back to 26”.

same seller has a mess of Snap-on that's already up to $1175 with four hours to go.
I'm beginning to be less and less surprised by the high bid amounts on some of these items lately.

I just sold one for $200. Not as nice, but no problems. I wouldn't put it on Ebay. five will get you a hundred, the seller gets scammed on that one.

"I will send you a cashier's check for $1573. The total of $910+$67=$977. For your trouble, please feel-free to keep an additional $50. I will have my purchasing agent collect from you a Western Union check for $546. The transport firm I have contracted with will then make arrangements for the pick-up of the chest. Kindest regards, I am in Afghanistan as part of the US Army deployment, and will be home soon after protecting our freedom for the duration of my year-long deployment."

Sure looks like a re-paint to-me.

lot of times the big price buyers never pay up and you either second chance offering down the bidding list to get a taker, then you got deal with eBay fees you been hit with when ain't actually sold lol .
I did list few cars via eBay but it generally waste of time due to total idiots and scammers .

Ship the chest after payment. Buyer states not as advertised. Ebay sides with buyer and he sends back an empty box after having paid for the proper weight postage. Ebay sides with buyer and seller is out the box plus shipping both ways. Ebay always sides with the buyer no matter what. If he paid for the shipping showing the weight of a full box, even photos of the box being opened will mean nothing. Never ever sell anything on Ebay worth more than $100.

B.S. Sell it on Ebay for $1000 with a 99%+ chance it'll work out just fine or sell it on CL for $200 after dealing with a gazillion flakes. Pick your poison.

A toolbox is hardly an item with a huge risk of fraud.

I've sold tons of toolboxes on CL. No issues. Yeah, flakes here and there, but no real problems, and always cash money in my hand.

I can't imagine making the effort to sell a regular sized tool box on eBay. Seems like way too much work to box it and ship it.

IMHO that box would not sell for more then about $200-300 on the average local CL. In order to get the exposure to attract those few bidders that will pay whatever it takes to get that minty box, then you need Ebay.

$200 on CL vs $1000 on Ebay?? I'll take the shipping hassle and risk any day!!

The small top drawers were a nice layout, hard to beat the Snap-On 26in wide boxes that did not need roller bearings. I would never spend that much, but original minty paint on a 40+ year tool box is rare and several bidders thought such. I hope it makes it to its new home unscathed.
