Dual fuel bosch range. My electrician will be back to tie into the panel, but I want to install the box and run some wire into the box from the basement so I can close up the wall.

I can’t seem to figure out which type of box I need. Can I just use like a deep single gang? 2 gang? Also anybody know what kind of wire I need for this? Electrician is on vacation.

Thanks in advance!
Oven needs 240v 30amp.
Here’s the monster plug, which I find insane considering there’s also a gas line.

Looks like a standard 14-50, it's what all ranges use. Anymore I hardly ever feed them with 50A wire. 8-3 NM on a 40A works fine. You need a 2 gang box.

Since the plug is the same I would wire it like an regular electric range.

Use a 4X4 or 4 11/16 X 4 11/16 box with a 2 gang ring 1/8" deeper then the finished wall material, for example, 1/2" drywall, use a 5/8" ring, 5/8" drywall use a 3/4" ring, this will insure that it's flush with finished wall surface which is important to avoid a floating receptacle.

So even though the ‘cap’ has 4 prongs, the top cylindrical prong is just for orientation....not a conductor? If not, then wouldn’t you need #8-4? Thanks

8-3 nm has black red white plus a bare ground.

Not aware of anybody making 8-4 Romex. You can get 8-4 MC. It has four insulated conductors plus a ground. You might use it for something that needs three phase with a neutral.

Just did the same, make sure you get the box in the correct position so that the plug head fits in the space in the lower back of the over and it pushes all the way back to the wall.

you said this is a range. not sure why you stated the oven requirements. the plug looks like a NEMA 14-50p as said above.

read the nameplate on the range, it probably needs a 50a circuit. If so, you need a NEMA 14-50r fed w/ 6/3 NM-b aka Romex on a 50a breaker, that is listed and labeled for your panel.

incorrect. that pin is the ground pin and is most definitely a conductor. With NM-b, the ground wire is not counted as a conductor. instead its written as 6/3 w/ grnd. He definitely needs a 4-wire circuit

Also it is a 30A 4 wire connection.

the plug looks to be a nema 14-50p. The OP needs to read the nameplate on the range and see what it calls for. Most likely being a 50a circuit NOT a 30a circuit.

Op got banned so he likely isn't going to reply..

but the first post said its a dual fuel unit. Gas cooktop, electric oven. Irrelevant for the actual discussion though
