Hard to look at that Moon Pool artwork and not see an overtly obvious influence for George Lucas...

Twas a cold rainy Saturday with a few lonely shivering yard sale sellers.
Got a Plumb hammer handle for 50 cents
a Parker vise for $8.00
and an "I don't know what kind of jack that looks like a widow-maker" for $3.00
I appreciate any opinions on what the jack is. So far I see dates but no manufacturer name.

the patent was awarded to Edward Huber - the Dec 27 1888 patent is US375675A an improvement to the May 3 1887 US375675 patent.
(I may file that under... "I think". Those dates look more like application dates)
Apparently manufactured by the Huber Manafacturing Co. of Marion OH. who were mainly known for steam engines.

Planned stop:
5 gal safety can - Athes reflectors, 2 Williams, 2 SK & 1 Enders drivers and some decent nippers;

The Safety can is spotless inside.

Don't think the reflectors have been used.

It's starting to get hot out there !
Found a very clean Morgan Quick Release wood vise on Market Place and grabbed that first thing. Funny, I havnt bought a vise in a while and later today I came across a small Columbian No. 43 vise with the Hardy too, it came home also. Also picked up an Acme Oil Stone and a round Lufkin Wizard tape.
As hurricane season is coming I picked up some Sterno fuel and stoves to flip, along with a bag full of ratchet straps for $5.

Lugz is trying to run up his post count!
Haha. It actually crossed my mind. Like, "Oh great, another post that counts against me and it doesn't even say anything!"

But guess what? That feature no longer exists! You can't click on the Replies tally at the end of the thread title and get a breakdown of the participants by # of posts. It was actually a handy statistics feature for GS thread hosts.

There is a Huber museum in Marion, Ohio. Could be a resource for any Huber fans seeking info.

Picked up a few books, and a wrench I would not expect to see this side of the Atlantic, an indestro, couldn't leave it behind.

i have a lot of hauls I need to post.. ill start back with today and a few recent. Today I hit the little flea that's not produced much in volume in a few months. Today was more like one of my old hauls! I scored some hub caps for my garage wall, a Grand Quikcet vise with leather jaws, Some Mac, Plomb, and Snappy wrenches. And a strange long thin DBE KAYLOCK with some US numbers on the back... (aerospace stuff maybe?) An old Williams 1/2 square drive T, Dreier small hack saw, Bonney DBE, Proto LA torque wrench, a cobblers hammer, and a little L wrench I cant figure out. Also, some sorta Yankee looking multi-tool with several bits in the handle.

Quite a bit going on this weekend so some decent pick-ups to be had.

Old school MAC metric nut driver set

Misc Snap-On stuff including the 3/8" drive breaker bar ratcheting adapter

Estate sale of a gentleman who was a mechanic at the now closed local John Deere Dealer. First guy on the sign-up list hoovered up all Snap-On stuff but not really big deal to me since it was a professional sale which typically means pretty high prices on Snap-On stuff and thus more than I want to pay. From the sale photo's I thought a spied my prey and was like 30th in the door and my thinking turned out correct and I was able to nab my prey of a Vulcan 1/2 drive long handle S-53 ratchet. Also some Vulcan drivers and wrenches.

Me neither. Both ends are exotic.

If you're talking about the knurled tubular handle with the pincer jaws near the Plomb combos, I'd love to see more photos of it and the other bits. Any markings?

Here's the multi tool, I can't find a single marking on it, or the tips.

We went late to a couple of estate sales. Pickings were slim but I found a few interesting things. A Dunlap carry box perhaps made by Huot, some Proto screw extractors in the box, a pair of Utica dykes, a westline ball pein, my third Winchester tool, a pair of pliers, a Thorsen Phillips that didn’t make the group shot and a Powr-Kraft yardstick. The dripper stuff will be handy and I couldn’t resist the Machinery’s Handbook for $1.00.

Proto extractors in the metal corner box earn a big you ****! Hard to find and extraction tool like that not used.

Hey Rags. That L handle has an Armstrong stamp on the shank. Factory or not, hard to tell.

I have the same multi tool ith the bits, but no nelp because it’s packed away yet. I don’t remember what info if any was on the outside, but do remember researching something when I got it.

I check Craigslist and Offerup. My wife does Facebook, but I don't. I do check FB without signing in, and don't see much for sales. I may not be able to see them because I don't sign in.

I used to check the local newspaper, but gave that up when they went political and I could not subsidize their slant.

My bread-and-butter is the local flea market, which happens once a month.

I won't dispute Provincial's genius-ity, but I'm leery about defining any relationship between the ell and the multi-tool based solely on the fit of the square end into the jaws.
First snag for me is "Form"--the ell is completely separate and external to the multi-tool "package"
Second is "Function"--what benefit or advantage is gained by using the two while connected in that manner?

Ignoring the offset 1/2-inch square drive opening, for a moment, how do the jaws on that "chuck" (for lack of a better term) keep the bits inside that smaller square opening formed by the closing of the jaws at the tip? Are they spring-loaded? Most multi-bit tools - whether older and wooden-handled or newer and composite- or steel-handled (I have all examples of all three types) - have a clamping mechanism that tightens and loosens around the bit with a screwing mechanism. How do those hold the bit tight?

Lugz, the knurled ring near the jaw end is threaded. As you screw it down itghter, it brings the top peice with thw jaws down tighter on the conical shaped end of the lower peice. Making the jaws come together tighter.l to hold the bits in the hole in the jaw tops.

It does look weird in that hole. And I had no idea what that makers mark was. Good to know its Armstrong though! But theyres no detendlt ball must be pretty early.

Ahhhh. Very cool. I'm starting to think the offset opening is just a wrench. Either way, I want one!

I made a couple stops yesterday, with fair success:

First stop was the estate of a Disney collector, but surprisingly (and why a went) there were interesting tools in the garage. Most of it overpriced, and I had to fight for room with the comics dealers and collectors, but I managed to find the SPARTAN socket set, New Britain nippers, screw gauge and a vintage box of rivits for $8.

Next stop was a farm estate sale, where I managed to find the following amidst the junk; set of vintage sockets (not sure of the maker yet) Plomb Snap-on and P&C sockets, 4" Williams adjustable, Proto feeler gauges, small Italian slipjoints that I thought were something else under the surface rust, and assorted files and such that were in the finger-joint box that I am going to repair. Also:

Practicle Plant Guide Book, 1928 by the editors of Industrial Engineering magazine, a 1959 Briggs and Stratton parts manual (loose leaf, homemade binding), and a 1972 Tecumsa manual for 2-7hp motors. All of that for a tenner.
