Had a guy crossed the bridge in council bluffs bugging me for a couple days about looking at a small electrical estimate.
Wanted some lighting changed and an extra outlet added for a fridge on an enclosed porch .
Looked at it yesterday and told him it would need an extra circuit to run fridge separate from lights.
So I needed to see the room in basement under porch to see where power could come from.
Saw some butchered stuff from previous homeowner,so I told him it would be better to tear the mess out and start from the panel.
I dont think I ever used so many explicit to describe a butchered up mess to a homeowner in all of my years in the trades!
I showed the pictures to a carpenter I know because of the framing hack work that would need to be repaired also after i relocated the panel and wiring.
Even he was amazed the home inspector never caught it when he bought the house a couple years ago.
He did write it up for needing the change breaker for the ac though!
I'm still working on my estimate for this mess! Hahaha

That's some nasty stuff there. I'm assuming Council Bluffs IA?... I was born there. CB has a lot of home owner ran wiring.

ouch! yeah, you won't get that job because it looks like it could be $1000 to fix that mess, and homeowner wants it done for $25.
I'm not a pro, but I know **** work when I see it.

Maybe I just can't see on this device, but most of the mess I see is the telephone wiring. That, and I can't believe they cut the floor joist...

It's a bunch of hacked together romex through out basement.
Service panel mounted close to 8' off of basement floor, with floor joist butchered so they can open door on panel.
I'm not worried about the little bit of phone wire.
All my pictures keep getting flipped sideways on this new edition of the forum.

Looks that joist already has a crack taking off from the corner of the notch.
