LOL, $1250 for a baby bullet, this must be a new record for insane pricing? I paid $150 for mine with original paint and mint jaws. Yes, I got a great deal, but top dollar has to be $450- $500 for this one?

His optimism is probably based on recent eBay sales for the Wilton "baby" vise.

The following is more like his vise and recently sold for $660.

The Wilton "baby" vise is a pure cult-vise, with logic having no play, whatsoever with the prices being paid. They are not rare at all, as "ten's of thousands" were produced for the WWII effort, according to the 1950 Wilton catalog ad below. These vises are available everyday and have been for the last -20- years on eBay.

I've got a handful of these vises that I paid between ($85-$150), but those days are over for the most part. A quick google search by a novice will give them a quick education about the unnatural demand and absurd prices given for this vise.

Educating the general public will do nothing to correct this pattern, in my opinion. I am truly baffled and have given up trying to understand the emotion behind this ongoing trend. This is the ultimate vise bubble, with no end in sight.

The vise pricing in generally has really has gotten insane. I've stopped collecting vises altogether and have begun selling off my unrestored stuff to make room in the shop. Not a hobby I can afford, but at least I can liquidate the extras and finance other things.

I wonder if I can sell my 8" Athol and 8" Parker and make enough profit to buy a second home? Hmm...

Doesn't look like those 4 digit ebay ones got any bids though.

They were "buy-it-now" listings. I've seen at least -3- others sell for over $1000 this year as well, while very many go for over $500.

Who is buying all of the "baby"vises on eBay? I doubt it's any of the GJ vise collectors, at least I hope not. It's like the "bitcoin" of vises.

This story is getting nuttier by the moment. This early version Wilton "baby" swivel base just sold for $349.

What bears repeating is there are many, many people in this world who have so much money, any cost down in the $1,000 range is antshit; they want it, they buy it.

A moderately rich techie I know spent that much getting last-minute flowers to his mother because he'd forgotten Mother's Day and breathed a sigh of relief he'd gotten it done. He didn't even ask the cost and won't ever see the bill when it comes in. Not worth his time to think about chump change.

What goes up, must come down.
Not gonna happen. The Federal Reserve has been trying to cause inflation and they're going to succeed beyond our worst fears.

For many years, inflation in the United States has run below the Federal Reserve’s 2 percent goal. It is understandable that higher prices for essential items, such as food, gasoline, and shelter, add to the burdens faced by many families, especially those struggling with lost jobs and incomes. At the same time, inflation that is too low can weaken the economy. When inflation runs well below its desired level, households and businesses will come to expect this over time, pushing expectations for inflation in the future below the Federal Reserve’s longer-run inflation goal.
