Hello,
I hope there's a SO dealer in the house.
I'm looking at a Solus 310 that has the 7.4 software. I do not need the latest and greatest scanner. What I do need is a scanner that will cover all OBD1 and OBDll vehicles to 2004. Mostly Mazda 90-03.
I need the trouble shooting for ABS,BCM, transmissions, connector and componet locations, etc.
Does the 7.4 software have what I'd need?
How much does the 7.4 cover?
Is a $1000. a fair price?
Is there a 7.2 software version? Seller listed it as having 7.2,but I can't find any listing. I assume its 7.4.
One last question, what did the 310 have as far as standard accessories?

Sorry to be so blunt, but I'm in the middle of this deal, and I have no idea of what this scanner is. Let alone what it is worth on the open market.

Thank you for any help,

I always stay away from used scanners, seen to many people get burnt. I would look into a new one, Does not have to be a snap on there are other one's just as good to suit you needs and price range.

I would try to get the solus pro. if your solus 310 ( heritage series ) breaks it is usually 750 bucks to get it fixed.
they are great scanners and you can update them for 995 to a current year when you get ready

just as good? nothing else even comes close.buy the best, buy it once and be done.a scanner is the one place you don't want to skimp because you'll regret lt later.

the PRO is better. for someone who does not need the latest then the heritage is good enough better than an old brick or an otc scanner

Absolutely, however any scan tool other than an OE model is a compromise at best, regardless of whose name is on it.

If that is the case, and he's only dealing with Mazda, he might as well get it over with and buy a NGS or IDS and be done with it. It won't include connector pinouts or troubleshooting, but that's what Alldata or factory manuals are for.

More and more, it's better to skip the middleman and just go with the OE scan tool if you want all of the bi-directional controls and access to all of the modules in a modern car. If you want Ford/Mazda get a NGS or IDS setup, GM uses the Tech II, Chrysler uses the DRB-III or StarScan, and so on.

If you just need basic access to codes, some entry level bi-directional controls, and work on more than one make of car, then a Solus will work. It's not the latest and greatest, but it will pull codes and display (most) PIDS just the same. The 7.2 software is spring 2007, so it's a bit dated and will cost some serious cash to update, but it should fit your model years.

FWIW If you do want to go OE, there is a NGS on ebay right now for $699. You might have to update it, but there is no aftermarket equivalent to a factory scan tool, even if you get the latest and greatest from Snap-on

You do realize that it runs the same software that an updated Solus/Solus Pro/Modis runs right?

stick with a solus or solus pro. the abs air bag and trasnmission trouble shooter is included and if you can get one with the euro included that would be a plus.
make sure it has a good variety of keys and adapters with it.
