Picked up a used KRL 1001 off Craigslist a few months back. I have been perfectly happy with my Homak 40" set for a few years and never felt the need to pay truck prices for the nicer boxes. I almost bought the HF 54" cabinet but really wanted a full length top drawer. Guy was asking $1800 but I ended up with it for $1500. The box was in decent condition but the slides were rough and some locked up. I contacted Snap On but the slides for this particular box were $89 a set and have been on back order for several months. I finally got tired of waiting around and decided to pull them all out and try cleaning.

New to me box

Drawers out, bottom was pretty oily and dirty

Found some goodies inside the cavity between the drawers! 2 new Kershaw knives, swivel fitting, and a new bracket for a Wilton vise!

Surprisingly enough it will fit mine!

All the junk and grime on the slides

Didnt get a pic of the slides in my ghetto cleaning tank, but I found a long shallow tub at the dollar store, dumped 2 gallons of mineral spirits in, soaked the rails, scrubbed with a hard bristle brush, soaked some more and they felt brand new! Here they are laying out to dry.

Inside of the box cleaned up ready for re-assembly

Very nice and a good deal, much better looking cleaned up. What will you use for lube on the rails.

nice box that .
piece of drainage pipe and some diesel works great for slide cleaning .
Hope you enjoy the box ...
Smart used truck box buys work out next to free as if keep condition good you can get all your money back and sometimes more ...
I got about 8 boxes between work and home and all used buys ... never had hassle of tool truck debt and had extra cash for tools and better shop equipment choices .

I read to try graphite spray lube but I did not like the feel at all. I ended up using some gun oil on all the slides and they feel like new! Doubt they will gum up in my garage where it stays fairly clean, but we shall see. It should definitely last long enough for the new slides to finally come in.

I bought a roll of this 1/8" rubber bed mat I found at Northern tool to use on the top since it did not come with anything. The roll was large enough to also put a piece on my work bench if I end up liking it. Cant believe how much difference going from an 18" deep box to a 30" deep box is though!

Old box top drawer was completely full and didn't include the meter, code reader, or all the impact sockets. Now it looks empty!

2 drawers worth of screwdrivers plus the pry bars were hanging off the side!

Pliers were all in 1 drawer and all stacked on each other!

2 drawers worth of wrenches plus the stubbies in the roll were hidden in a separate drawer.

Hello loranger.......I am lowyota......does that make us arch enemies? Or did we just become best friends?

Box cleaned up real nice and in a home environment it'll last forever. I went from a 25 deep box a few monthes ago to a 30 and even that was a huge change in space

I miss driving mine it's been 15 years lol. If I had money I'd get all new air setup and work on getting it back on the road but kids and wife come first. I had a 4wd yota for the past few years, and I've been working on getting a 00 quad cab frontier on the road, needed a motor some front end damage ect I also dropped it about 5/6 I'm excited to have a lowered truck again, hopefully it's finished up this weekend.
