Box for bits

Flat, phillips, pozi, Hex, torx, tamper proof torx, square, yadda, yadda. I have a lot of bits. I'm looking for a good box to store them. Anyone know of a good one? Here's what I want:

Access. The two I have hold the bits snugly in plastic or rubber. This might make it hard for them to fall out, but it also makes it hard to grab them quickly. I'd like easy access. This is for my roll cab instead of portable maintenance. But a top that would cover the bits so they don't fall out would be a plus.

Labels. Can you tell a T25 from a T27 just by looking? Stick on labels would allow me to customize it for my assortment.

Size. Doesn't have to be huge. Perfect would be about 10 rows of 8 so I could have one row for each type. With enough space between rows that I could get my fat fingers in to grab them.

Surely someone makes one. Whatcha got in your toolbox?

I really like the Mechanics time saver magnetic bit holder, over 30 bits and you can get them out with two fingers. They are expensive though @ $15 new.
I suppose if you dropped it from high enough the bits would fall out, but the magnet will hold them on metal surfaces.

Is there an empty Snap on case? I have bits and don't need to spend $150. I'll take a look at the Mechanics Time Saver. If there is a place to put labels, that works.

Simple, easy and cheap would be to drill a series of holes in a peice of wood. Use a drill stop to get the right depth; space out the holes so theres enough room to label them. To make it look pretty, use oak, and stain/seal it.

Kinda like this...

Not exactly what you're looking for but still a good idea for bit storage. I am sure you could write on it with a sharpie to label them.

Looks like ^^^ beat me to it.

Thanks for the link, thats the one I'm talking about. MTS should mold a lid on them that would fold out of the way when in use, but could be closed at the end of the day to keep the bits from rusting.

I like the MTS stuff, but not their pricing.

I'm actually going to build something like that tonight. I picked up all the materials today. I'll post up when I'm done.

I actually have that set (well, the case is red). It's not horrible for what it is. I got it cheap and had a need for the TR Torx and the tri-wing.

How easily do the bit pull out? How easy is it to read the sizes molded into the plastic?

@Monte: Exactly. Now if that had twice the number of bits, was available in the U.S. and didn't cost 200 euros... Just kidding. Is that available in the U.S.? Who sells Hazet at decent prices here?

@e3pres: Nice job. Going into production?

Thanks, Monte. I see it here for $115 at Maryland Metrics. Outrageous markup. I wonder if Amazon.de ships to the US? Or maybe I will ask one of the people on eBay.de.

Be bop down to wal mart and buy a kids plastic pencil box. while there go to the crafts department and pick up a block of foam or you could use a small piece of wood. Cut the foam or wood to fit the bottom half of the pencil box. then drill as many 1/4 inch holes for your bits, spaced for your size markings. there you go, mega bit storage for less than $3.00.

The best is probably ebay.de. There are 16 offers right now @ ebay.de click

2 of them ship worldwide and offer Paypal as payment: click and click

I stopped by Harbor Frieght and picked up this for $10:

Each row is marked with sizes and the bit are easy to get out. I cut off the top for easy access. Of course, I threw away the bits. Calling them junk would be a compliment.
