I should add: good selection of tools and great choices. It's just the disorganization that would trouble me.

You got a great setup there. I love the old school craftsman tool boxes. Looks like an awesome shop.

it really is quite remarkable how Few tools one REALLY needs to do good work. We all love tools and buy them for fun and obsession.

There's a saying, "90% of the jobs you perform in life will only require 10% of your tools, but the remaining 10% will require the other 90% of your tools." It's very true.

My humble but well stocked shop is overkill for most jobs, but several times a year I encounter a job that requires a very large number of my tools, as well as lots of mental creativity for everything to get done correctly and in a way I can be proud of. It isn't always obvious at the beginning which type of a job it's going to be either, so I remain very thankful for all the tools I have. Especially the ones that only get used once or twice a year.

Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes organization. He has all similar tools stored together. It looks very organized to me, just not in an OCD way.

That's fair! I'm half joking. I'm sure not everyone would like what my tool box looks like either.

I hate when things move when I close drawers, I never store tools on open surfaces and I prefer to know if something is missing by the void it leaves. Everything has a designated spot either in precut foam, a tray or a rack, BUT because the box is small, density is high.

Organizing like that has it's own drawbacks though. Because everything has a spot and the box is tightly packed, it probably encourages me to leave more tools out while I work (not being bothered to put everything back until the job is done and I account for my tools). As dense as my toolbox is, you can still store more if you keep things in a heap. Adding new tools also requires more work.

Reminds me of the "Let's See Your Toolbox" thread, love that one. I'm always interested in the boxes, tools, and layouts. The drawer shots with the tools laid out are my favorite part.
