Probably also made in China, but for those who are looking for a deal on a toolchest and don't like Harbor Freight maybe this is an option:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_009H0029000B?adCell=W8&sid=I0084400010000100312&aff=Y

Normal price for the pair is $2000, showing at that link for $1499. Add it to your cart and it adds both items with a total price of $999 for the pair. Not too bad, and has free in-store pickup so no shipping. Not sure how long the sale will last.

Don't work for Sears, just passing along what could be a good deal...

Thanks!

I don't know if in fact these things are made in China but don't knock them. I have the 42" version of the one above and it is a very good quality tool box. I know it's doesn't compare to the Snap On's and the Cornwell's and the sort but the quality is there. the only difference that I can think of between the high dollar ones and the Craftsman are the slightly thicker gauge. Personally, when it comes to tool boxes, your paying 60% for the name and 40% for the quality. just my .02

Wow, that's a pretty nice deal right there. If I were in the market for a box right now, I would probably grab one.

I also have a 42 inch version. I was really happy with it until last week the drawer pull came off.

hmm, really! a good friend has had the same 42" for almost 12 years and he's never had that issue. he's a professional mechanic. he's the reason I bought the 42" over a 26".

Gotta watch those Craftsman boxes though. Some are only 12" deep. The ones in the first post are less than 15" deep in the top box.

This looks like an interesting deal. I like the idea of a wide toolbox. I have two of the standard width craftsman ball bearing boxes now. I am thinking of selling them and getting one large box. What do you guys think of this box compared to the montezuma boxes on strictlytoolboxes.com

I believe it's online only. A time before I tried to buy something like that and pick it up at the local store. They wouldn't honor it because to them "online only" meant I couldn't take one from the store.

I have no idea what they'd say on this box but it's Sears so be prepared to be frustrated beyond belief.

My understanding is "online only" means you can only make the purchase online... i.e., don't expect to walk into the store and go to the tool department and pay the same price. But if you buy it online for store pickup and they accept your money, they are pretty much obligated to give it to you at the merchandise pickup door.

I have had some bumpy rides with sears purchases but never had any drama with buying online and picking up at the store. As far as the store is concerned, it is paid for and they just hand it to you and send you on your way.

I would have bucked that one up the food chain until I got satisfaction or tried a different sears...

If they won't give you the same deal in the store, just buy it on the Sears store kiosk computer. You can even select store pickup in the same store when you buy it online in that store. (You also get free shipping on the stuff that goes UPS.)

Anyone actually have this model? Right in my price range and I'm ready to pull the trigger. Still Comparing montezuma and stuff. Thought I would ride down to sears and take a look right quick before I did any online ordering.

I took a hard look at that box a couple weeks ago. It's feels a bit flimsy, but my biggest dislikes were it's too shallow and it doesn't have at least 1 full-width drawer.

I think this is a better option, even though it's $500 more. For some reason the craftsman box lists about 2000 cubic inches more storage space, even though the montezuma box is wider and deeper. Even if that is true, the montezuma drawer design is much more useful IMO. I found drawers that go 2/3 across with a smaller bank of 1/3 drawers works a lot better. Plus I think at least 1 full-width drawer is a must.

Also, the craftsman drawers are only rated at 70 lbs each. The montezuma box has 5 200 lb drawers and the rest are rated for 100 lbs.

I have one and it's not too bad. I don't mind the depth too much (top is 14.5" and the bottom is 16.5") but I wish it had some full-length drawers.

I took a look at this one at lunch today and the HF box too. The craftsman box was sturdier than the HF box. The HF box had a lot more play in the drawer slides and flex when you but weight in the drawer. I actually stood in the bottom drawer on the craftsman (I tip the scale at about 265) :yikes:. The depth of the box is on par with other boxes in this range. I think that montezuma is closer to the craftsman professional line which makes it a tremendous buy. I'm still thinking hard. I'm gonna call strictlytoolboxes and see what they can do. could go a little more than a grand but not too much. I still have a budget I need to stay within.
