Marvin, here is a link to an Ebay listing for a brake lining rivet tool. The second photo in the listing shows the type of tool you need to set a tubular rivet to match what you have. These tools show up at garage sales and especially at estate sales. They used to sell for $5.00 or less brand new, and often are a buck or two at sales.

Ebay Brake Rivet Tool

For light duty, a brass brake lining rivet would work well. If there is anyone in your area that still rivets lining on brake shoes, they should have a selection of brass rivets to pick through. If they do truck brakes, they will have larger rivets.

Another possibility is an aircraft mechanic that works on light aircraft, like Cessnas and Pipers. Many an light aircraft brake has been relined using a similar tool.

This is gold, thank you.

Long story about this box. It belonged to a very good friend of mine when I lived in Texas. I moved to Missouri about 3 years ago. He came down with cancer and passed that same year. I had a mutual friend ship it to me. Wasn’t able to get the middle or bottom box. It was in rough shape when I got it. It used to be full of Snap on tools that disappeared over the years. Looked it up here - appears to be an early 80’s box. It means an awful lot to me.

Nice to see it spiffed up with some ZRX bling :)

That was a beauty!!

Here's my recent addition picked it up from txvwnut, saw he posted it for free and it was local to me. Very excited to get this one refurbished. The SK roll cab is rare enough but the Lyon box I've never seen. Looks to be the same as the early Mac and Matco boxes judging by the handles.
Upon further research I found this old thread:

The lower Lyon box looks very similar to the SK lower box, most likely the same manufacturer. The drawer handles are obviously different but the configuration and side handle look identical.

So this is a vintage tool box! it was used to ship Stillson pipe wrenches! ( got it full of sockets, extensions, adapters and a ratchet and breaker bar this past Sunday.

Stillson box Front.jpg

Stillson box Side.jpg

VERY well made and in incredible shape for its age (I'm thinking at least 90, maybe 100+?

I'm thinking this MIGHT be a good utensils box for camping? I need to find some 3/16ths material for a sliding lid. I'd prefer wood, but ply that thickness might be tricky. I'd also make a tray for the top part as well.

Maybe, I see them from time to time. (I don't drink and the ladies of the house only buy an occasional bottle of wine - Its still a bit weird to me that my youngest is "of age"...)

You guys may find this old thread amusing.

There used to be a guy selling wine boxes out Of his driveway in Oakland north of the Bay Bridge. Can probably find them on CL quite easily too nowadays. My daughter found some very specific ones from someone down near Menlo Park From CL

Stop in at any Total Wine and More outlet or any big chain liquor store and just ask. Bring your box and they may even have something that fits.

You could use slightly thicker plywood and cut a rabbet around three edges so it slides into the groove. You'll wind up with a sturdier lid that way.

You could get a piece of pine roughly the same thickness as the rest of the box, and work the edges with a plane. Drill a hole of a finger, and bobs your uncle.

This is actually better than a “thickness of the slot“ board, not just for strength, but also gives you a level surface to stack the next item on top.

I saw a really nice looking Beach stack in the background of a Kijiji ad for tools. Some guy bought a house with a garage full of tools and was trying to sell off the stuff he didn't want to keep. That included the Beach box. I already have this box, but the tall lower cabinet is pretty uncommon around here and I really love mine. Plus my upper is in pretty rough shape, so I figured what the heck, why not. My Beach collection is getting a bit intense for my small shop, but I just can't seem to help myself haha!

This one is badged as Mastercraft, but having them side by side I can confirm they are 100% identical to the Beach-badged version. No rust anywhere on the box, even inside below the bottom drawers. It needs some new drawer liners, slide lube, and a little polish. I think I'll use this one for organizing hardware and small parts.
Love those beaches. I have a tall cabinet one and a couple shorter ones. My tall one came with the smaller Beach made Craftsman box and a Craftsman middle drawer setup both with black drawers and the Craftsman style handles. Some of he second box or maybe all of it is Mastercraft branded.
Even tho I'm local to where Beach was made you still see more of it for sale in other areas.

I found another silver Kennedy 620 today, like the one I shared last October, except this one only has one hasp in the center. Here's the previous post.
I recently picked this one up and was curious about the age as well. It also has black felt in the drawers and the same style pulls.

Growing up, a black, heavy, metal tool box that reminded me of a doctor bag sat inside our back door. It was my dad's "car tools" tool box, filled with ratchets, sockets, and wrenches. I always loved that toolbox, but hadn't thought much about it for years, until stumbling across this site.

After quite a few failed searches, I figured out it was a Union Steel Union Super tool chest. I was able to find one on eBay that is in fantastic condition, I just needed/need to replace a rivet (question on this later).

This one's gray, not black, but still has the stickers. I'm going to line the bottoms and make it a "Jeep box".

Last pic is the rivet I needed to replace. I used a pop rivet, but it's wrong on the back.

What I got (left), vs what I want (right). What rivets/how do I get the back to look like that?
PXL_20210826_232934192.jpg
Drill out the long rivet and go back with a short one.

I have that exact same box, with the single latch and keys and the front. Mine sat in the basement on the floor for years and it rusted through just on the corner. I keep taps and dies in it, along with Greenlee sets.

Mine saw some moisture as well, but the rust wasn't too serious. I just scraped it with a razor blade and then gave it a nice OSPHO bath. My shop is dry, so that will be fine for now. I was pleased to see so little wear on the glides. It seems like a low mileage box. It did not come with the front cover, but those are missing on most of my boxes. I tried bending those tabs inside the lid back, so they don't push the locking pins down, but they still push them enough to interfere with the top drawer if the lid is completely closed. That is kind of an annoying feature. (this is the as-found-rust condition)

Here's where it is parked for now.

I found a Powr-Kraft box at a garage sale yesterday that was likely sourced from Kennedy. It cleaned up pretty well and is complete. I’ll post it in the Powr-Kraft thread as well. Now where to put it?

Does anybody know who made these boxes and how old are they? How is the quality?
Looking at the drawer handles I want to guess MBC
Box1.jpgBox2.jpg
I have the same box. The consensus guess was MBC, sold under a slew of brands including Snap-on and Cornwell, prob. about 1970s. My biggest issue if inability to release the drawer slides. The hacksaw blade trick doesn't seem to work. Have you had any luck?

Picked up this MAC 1/2" drive socket set box from the early 70's.
Part number in the catalog says it is a B23V. 19.5" x 7.5" x 2.25" 7lbs.
