Is this a quality professional epoxy job?

I just hired a company to put down an epoxy floor in my garage. There are some things that don’t look good to me, but wanted to see what you guys think before I reach out to the installer.
There are many areas of the floor where you can still see the concrete slab underneath. It looks like there is some striping - areas where there is thicker epoxy and/or full flake coverage look very white, while other places look dark where the concrete shows through.

The line at the garage door also looks sloppy to me. And the sweep under my man door was epoxied to the floor, so it ripped off when I opened the door.

I’d appreciate any comments. The company was very timely and courteous, but I think the quality is mediocre at best.

These are the details:

$4.50/sqft
Diamond grind preparation of the complete surface (critical for permanent adhesion).

Application of industrial-grade epoxy.

Full broadcast of vinyl flakes (or chips) which gives the floor a uniform decorative look as well as traction.

Application of UV-stable, chemical- and abrasion-resistant polyaspartic topcoat. This final coat is impermeable to fuels, oils, water, and many other fluids. making it easy to clean and maintain.

Lifetime warranty - which covers bubbling, flaking, peeling, blistering, and hot tire pick up.

Process timeline - 1.5 days to install, okay for foot traffic the day following; please allow an additional day for vehicle traffic.3849BEF6-A132-4BDB-84C3-280E67785546.jpeg

The color distribution ... the chips were broadcast by hand, you are going to get a random pattern. Looks ok to me.
A little sloppy where it seeped under the tape at the doorway.
The critical item to me would be full coverage of the top coat. I would ask them to verify that.

Right, the flakes are supposed to be "random"; however I'm not sure how much more they can improve (maybe they can straighten up the lines?). Seems like something you have one shot at to me.

Sorry, but that's really bad workmanship @ $2/sqft, let alone $4.50 imo. Unfortunately, it's probably too late to remedy the issues (money and/or workmanship). There's likely very little you can do at this point but to see how it holds up (which it may, as others have mentioned). Good luck!

Would you mind telling me what you think is bad about it? Or is it just the things I mentioned?

I assumed the layer of epoxy would be thick enough that you wouldn’t still be able to see the concrete… I’m less worried about the flake distribution and the crappy line at the garage door, though I still want that line cleaned up or redone.

That dont look like a full broadcast of chips to me...at least not uniform full broadcast.

And it also doesnt look like they took any time to scrape the flake before they top coated.

That's bad, IMO, for paid work. I would be pissed. I hope it isn't paid in full, otherwise you are probably SOL

If that was a DIY, first time you did epoxy, I'd say not terrible. But you paid $3+ in labor to have that done

Geez the line at the door is far from straight. They can't even get that right I would question the rest of the job.

Looks like not great workmanship in our opinion. A full broadcast normally will fully cover the base coat and not show any of the concrete under it. Also did they scrape down or sand the overlapping flecks so it's comfortable to walk on in socks or bare feet? Hard to tell. As for the unevenness looks like they grabbed a load from the bottom of the box where the small fleck residue tends to rest.

Thanks for the replies all.
The company has ordered more flakes. I believe they will do another broadcast of flakes on top of the existing polyaspartic layer, then put another coat of polyaspartic on top. But I’ll confirm.

Make sure they sand/scrape them well and vacuum before reapplying, and the same for the second broadcast of flecks. While the flecks should have texture they should not be sharp or sticking up. Normally two coats of topcoat is needed on a full broadcast as the overlapping flecks create millions of little gaps and valleys that the first coat fills up, and then the second coat gives the protection.

Will do. Thanks again!

I would be pissed if a company did that poor of an install. That needs to be redone or at a bare minimum a second broadcast of flakes. At $4.50 per SQ ft you can't expect too much though. That is very cheap for a proper flake flooring job.
