Thanks! If your talking about the nut at the bottom of the quill, I used a punch and a small hammer. If that doesn’t work I’d add some heat and then let it cool before tapping it to avoid damaging the nut.

It's a split collar. Remove the clamping bolts and drive a wedge (screwdriver or such) into the gap to spread it. It should come off easily after that.

Hi fellow drill press addicts! I am restoring a Delta DP600 17" drill press just like this. I tried to very carefully take pics and notes as I took it apart to help with the reassembly, but inspite of my best efforts I have 2 rings that are 0.010" thick. I have no idea where they belong!!!! My best guess is that they go between the main casting of the head and the rewind mechanism to act as sort of a slip disc to aid in the adjuster rotating, but this is just a guess. Could someone please advise? Pics below and many thanks. Cheers!

I didn’t find any shims in mine but they look like they could fit the spindle bearings. Trying to think of what axial shimming would provide in that configuration.?.
