Got out to the shop last night and turned (foreshadowing pun) this:

The wood is Cottonwood from a tree I cut down this spring. It's light and likes to tear out if I'm not careful (hence the roughness inside the flutes of the honey dipper) but I think it came out OK. I totally lucked out when I landed that knot right in the middle of the handle bulb, I think it looks awesome.
Now I'm just waiting for the mineral spirits I wiped it down with to evaporate (it's pretty stinky at the moment) and then it'll get a wax finish for cutting boards and salad bowls.
The rest of this particular bit of wood has been fed through the planer and is on it's way to becoming another baby rattle, coupled with a bit of curly birch (maybe) I salvaged from my in laws' firewood pile. No idea how that one is going to turn out!
