Survived a workout session with my personal trainer; took so much energy I napped for about 90 minutes until lunch, after lunch made a bank deposit; now catching up with those who enjoy their garages,

We just replaced all the siding and trim on the chimney 2 months ago. I haven't seen any bugs while working on it, but will spray it just in case.

Cleaned it out and started prepping it for winter. Checking out all the seals on doors/windows and making sure the heater works.

Spent the WHOLE morning changing ONE ball joint on my sister's 2008 Outback. Most of it was getting the dam pinch bolt out without breaking it off, but everything on the job fought me to the bitter end. The last straw was a lug nut that cross threaded when I put the wheel back on. Fortunately I had a spare.

Next is making the exhaust stack. Then welding the dome top to the barrel lid ring. Maybe I’ll eventually get better at this thin stuff, need more practice.

Carried a new aquarium into it. I'll need to build a stand for it later, but too many current projects. Only bought the aquarium because I've been wanting/needing to upgrade for a while now and Petco was having their $1/gallon sale.

Drilled a single 35mm hole in a piece of steel to test the new bit and verify it's the right size for the project I'm working on.

I finished moving everything to storage for about 6 weeks while the slab is removed and replaced, then quartz floor. Now that it is empty, I am standing in there trying to figure out if there is a better way to organize.

Slab is in. Had another exterior pad poured for the motorhome. Super exicted!

Both slabs 6" 5000 psi with fiber and wire on 6" compacted. Interior slab is smooth waiting for quartz. Exterior slab broom finish. Both about 24x24.

Cleaned up the bench and threw out a old battery charger ( as big as a concrete block) that caused an overcharge on and older battery and facilitated an early replacement.
I don't want to have a charger I need to put on a timer and take up my bench space.
It was a give away anyway.
I have a newer smart charger you hook up and forget.
It automatically goes into maintain trickle charge when the battery hits full 100% charge.

They can be used as 12v power supplies. Even an electrolysis tank. I sometimes use mine to run a 12v air compressor to fill those 8" hand truck and dump cart tires. Easier than dragging out the air hose and running the big compressor.

My ANC armored nails require a grinder. Mine is a Melody-Suzy. It has just enough gumption to grind finger nails. It can't break skin. I try not to stick my fingers in the bench grinder.

Went out to the shop and drilled a few holes this morning for a project I'm slowly working on.

I need to surface the top a little (.06") so the bearing sits flush. Then another piece of steel will be bolted to the top to capture the bearing.

I like to wear nitrile gloves when using bench grinder. Just enough protection to help with the occasional touch but weak enough not to pull your hand in.

Finally putting in some serious shelf storage. Have several bread racks but they can't hold big stuff so got two of the large Husky units from Home Depot. Got one up this morning after cleaning up the area and putting down some waterproofing on the floor where the wood meets it. Plan to do the same all around the garage for easier spraying down with the pressure washer in the future. Got a second shelf to go up next to this one but my back was asking for a rest so I'll get it done this evening. This is all to help clear out space in another part of the garage for a new used 4 post lift to go next to my two post so I can store two cars for the space of one (more or less).

Averted a fire? T8 fixture decided to let the smoke out.

Wife left at 530 this morning, left garage inside lights on as usual. I left at 545 and smell electric burning smell. Then hear buzzing like a bee. Snoop around and see smoke from the tombstone end wafting to the ceiling and arcing. Remove bulb (which was still working) to find end charred.

Why did this happen? Fixtures are Leviton and about 6 years old and GE bulbs.

Got the first tread installed. It looks ok, and my design works. 14 more to go. Sanded the filler on the foyer trim. Sanded the doors, too.

Cleaned off the MAIN bench, scraped dried glue and washed the top.


I also got the 3rd bay clean. Waiting for wife to finalize a pile of stuff from her late mother as her niece is coming by tonight to claim the last of it.


Whatever is left, goes to a free for all site we have locally. You put it on the porch and the first to claim it gets the address.
If it isn't picked at a designated time, the next person....usually picked in a timely manner.
So all three bays get used, in the winter, as the garage is heated ....all the cars move over one and the truck goes in the far bay....

New design will also have an increased caster to reduce wobble.

Redesigned and framed in polycarbonate panels inserts for free heat and light for the winter. Yes, its a garage, but no vehicles go in or out on a regular basis. Mostly shop work.

Wife spent ~ hr or so shredding mostly junk mail yesterday, so I thought I'd better accomplish something today (besides draining beverage cans).

Spent the morning putting new struts on the front of the Explorer. Used the KYB quick struts and it seems to have tightened things up quite a bit. Trying to decide now if I'm willing to drop another $300 or so to do the back struts also. At 128K it's probably time but it costs money and it's a pain to do.

Sanded, primed and painted a window bench seat for our kids place that we built last weekend. Learned a lot on this project as it is one of the most complex things I ever built with wood. Also used my spray guns for the first time. Lots to learn in that area, but not bad for a bit of a hack. Last step is hauling it to their place next Saturday and do the final trimming.
