Rhetorical question, but am I dumb?

I ran out of welding wire this afternoon. Went to change spools.

I grabbed the box that Central Welding Supply sold me.

look at the box, and tell me what kind of wire it is.

Then look at the spool from Lincoln. Clearly labeled.

Also, Lincoln has the spool label readable when on the machine.

The **** brand has the label on the backside when on the machine.

Why would you put carbon steel, low alloys, stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper alloys, and aluminum on a box that contains flux core?

Pinnacle Alloys needs a lesson in labeling/graphic design/ marketing.

Riv, I have the same labeling problem with that brand wire. You should be able to tell at a glance when it’s in your welder.

Jay
If can’t see the label, I know it came from Central Welding Supply! Not a problem for me because 1) I only run .030 MIG in the 211 and 2) just used the last spool from them; moved and don’t have to shop there anymore.

They always seem to be on the high side for pricing, but they are paying for brick and mortar.
Ya have to have someplace to get your tanks filled.
I have gotten decent advise and service from them, but not always.

Riv, that is a comprehensive list of "available alloys" on that box, specifics require a large magnifying glass! DOH! As for the label being on the wrong side, the welder at work is a bottom feeder so the label would on the right side but about 43 lbs small. I haven't looked at mine in so long I can't remember, i use the equipment at work whenever possible, our wages have been stagnant for decades so this is my form of wage reform. [off clock always I don't need any further reductions!] I hadn't considered that some fed alternatively. Harry

Ya, my little heater is a Craftsman, so there is that🤔

I did get some time today to add the rubber base to the toe kick, then figured it would work as a backsplash as well. Then I installed a 4’ plug strip. My Tormek and lapping plate are in their final spot. The lathe is just in temp storage.

Looks good, Riv. What brand is the lathe? I have the older Delta version, don't use it much.
General International. Offshore quality.

I go through phases, turn like crazy then it sits for a year or more.

That’s why I’m sticking with a smaller machine.

I also like to turn outside. Keeps the mess out of the shop!

I have that same Dazor light downstairs right now. Garage sale $1.50 and a bunch of cleaning and polishing, now I'm not sure where to use it. I've got enough LED's hanging from the ceiling now that I think I'm sun burning the top of my head, but I couldn't leave it behind.

I used to play at my dad’s table as a kid. Loved the mechanical arm. I thought it was going to help me draw. I learned that that’s a skill for someone else.

it’s still nice to have it on my bench👍

Ha! I have that exact same light that was on my dad's desk that I played with as a kid as well. Apparently they were more popular than I thought.

Every once in awhile, I need a diversionary project.

Tonight’s is some old steering wheel.

I don’t know what it came off of, and I have no need for it.

Like a lost puppy, it followed me home.

Been hanging in my shed for years. I could have tossed it, and never gave it a second thought.

Sanded about 96% of the silver paint off, cleaned up some of the rougher spots.

Then I applied a coat of penetrating epoxy.
Hoping the epoxy will penetrate the hairline cracks and maybe even stabilize the old, brittle rubber onto the steel frame in the spots that have been completely rubbed off.

Tomorrow I will start filling the trouble spots with epoxy putty, and sand them smooth.

I like that Sculpwood epoxy putty, I’ve used it outside for several things and it holds up well after being painted.

With a new job starting soon (TBD), I’m feeling an overwhelming sense of urgency to finish my steering wheel.😜

Painted it yesterday, and wet sanded it today.
Doesn’t look like much, but it’s baby-**** smooth. Still need some spot glazing putty for the micro defects.

Anybody in the market for an 18” steering wheel?🤔

Got a '40 Ford wheel in a box somewhere to go on the '32 when I get back to working on it.

Got a gut feeling that this wheel is a war era Willys or deuce and a half wheel.

Picked a color I thought might be appropriate.

i've got more than a little catching up to do on your thread. did you enjoy your summer and maybe catch a few fish and sun out on the water you call home?

I just saw that twisted jumper wires post and i've wired up more than a few things and houses and never seen that before or used it, but I will now.

best of luck with the new job and is it local or a long commute?

Thanks Drives!

I quit my job on 7/31, so yes I’ve had a great summer!

The new gig is local but being in construction , who knows where I’ll end up for projects.
Mostly they try to stay local.

Seriously though congrats and I hope it’s a good fit.
