Armorers' chest used to carry tools and repair parts for the M191 Browning .30 cal MG. If you search GJ on "M5" and/or "D28243" (the Ordnance Dept drawing and stock number) you'll find a few I have found through the years and reported on the GS thread, and one post in this thread, IIRC, from way back, where I posted an excerpt from a manual and the drawing. They hardly ever have the tray, so that's a plus. I sent a really nice one, with tray and perfect handle, to Roger Milam (Sillys MB) in England. And I still have one that is in near mint condition complete with the original key for the locking clasp. I'd post it but I'm in a hotel in Philly.

Just the latch, I think IMO those with the (totally simple, easily picked) keys were more to ensure the thing stayed latched while carrying it, than for theft.

Anybody recognize this small hip roof carry box with a tray? Found it at the swap meet yesterday, looking at the detail around the hinges was thinking it may be Snap On. But a search hasn't turned up anything like it.

How do you keep your daily driver equipped? I found the machine guns almost a requirement. Especially around a good Estate Sale.

HAZET Assistent 166 TS 1967-76 (with yellow brakes, 1979 the brakes are uncolored silver)
(something like a luxury "Assistent" version, foldable including removable pillars, integrated lock at the top, ...
predecessor of the "166 N" in 1982 with simple foldable pillars)

will take 1-2 month of work (cleaning, bulging, rust removal, paintwork, new keys, add-ons, ...)

Lyon toolbox. This was pretty rough and rusted. I took a grinder with a 60 grit wheel and got to bare metal. Sanded the box. Primed 2 coats and colored 6 coats with Rust-Oleum. Turned out to be a nice little box. You can see scuff marks that I've put on it since the re-finish.

That, is one sweet score! How on earth did you find it? Perfect shape, bright red, weirdly non-functional if you know what I mean. No disrespect intended, but it’s odd, you would have to go from somewhat light-heavyish to light as you progress outward from tier to tier. I love it! One more thing to keep eyes peeled for.

Dad's toolbox he made from a type case. Back when (pre 1960s?) printing still used moveable type, which was stored in cases like this.

Here is a 910 from the '53 and '58 catalogs, and you can clearly see the decal.


Now, that particular model, the 904, is not listed in those catalogs, and as far as I can tell, no boxes/sets are listed in the '49 catalog, but it is listed in the '41 cat, albeit with a different decal:


So, that leads me at least to date the box at 50-52. And they do list bit accessories in the '49 catalog, such as countersinks, dowl sharpeners, etc. Not too far of a jump to selling bits at that point. Again, they don't list any boxes in that catalog, possibly a result of the war.

And I know that you covered all of that in your post, but I thought pics would help some others. And until we see a catalog from those years, we can only speculate what would have been!

I picked up this Stanley 910 box this morning.
Most of the tools are there.
Missing a hammer and a few other things that shouldn't be too hard to find.
My wife is unhappy I brought it in the house.

Some of the tools look completely unused. A couple look to be experienced a bit.

The Stanley book that was inside got mouse eaten, but someone put the correct page in a sharpening pamphlet that didn't.

Now to appease the wife...

Well, it started a few years ago with a Remline 3D top box. Then back in August of this year, I spied a Remline center/intermediate box from a FB Marketplace ad.
I was building this stack from the top down, it would seem.
Yesterday, I'm browsing Marketplace.... (I should really stop doing that), and I spied a Remline bottom box for $20! Needless to say, it's followed me home.
I was hoping for a Remline bottom box with more drawers, but for $20, I'm not going to complain!

Here's the top two boxes again.

And the roller with the crappy repaint. Hopefully, one day, it will look as nice as @Gunfighter556 's box.
