Hey JB, I went with Rustoleum's Epoxy Shield for the base coat.



For the clear coat I went again with Rustoleum's Epoxy Shield.



The clear coat comes in a new two part burstable pouch. You start rolling one pouch until it builds enough pressure and it breaks the seal between the two then you start kneading. From the reviews I saw about it, I was not going to go that route as they stated that the mixing was incomplete. So I cut down the middle of the separating seal, cut the corners to open the pouches and poured it into a plastic bucket to mix. I also added the silica sand non-slip additive while I was mixing. Worked out real well.

Hi Mike and thank you! Yes, time to start moving in. I contacted the riggers and it looks like they are booked out until December. Until then, I will probably start moving the smaller items. The rest of the cabinets should be showing up tomorrow. Compressor is supposed to ship 11/04, my on-demand water heater just showed up and the painters are supposed to start their work on the 8th. Stuff is happening.

Hi Mike! Yes single stage, 60 gallon and just about 13 CFM @ 90 PSI. The Rapidaire I had before was a bit anemic and could barely put out 9.5 CFM @ 90 PSI. It was also quite loud. I have read that this Quincy is pretty quiet. I hope it is. Break in requires the pump to run for an hour with the drain valve open to seat the rings. I will probably leave the shop and let it run and go have a beer.

You'll love the Quincy compressor Dan. When I built my first shop in the early 90's I was nearing completion and running out of funds quickly however, I splurged and bought a 60-gallon dual stage Quincy air compressor and haven't looked back. One of the best purchases I have made during my career as a mechanic. It easily supported both my son and I working in the shop using air tools for the past 30 years now as I also took it with me to our new shop several years ago.

I did that on my 60gal Dewalt, if there was any debris I could not see it. I guess it didn't hurt to do it.

The instructions state to drain the oil after X amount of run hours or one month. What you two fine gentlemen suggest sounds right by me and I will be doing so. I also bought the compressor kit from Quincy so I have plenty of their oil.

And we have paint!!



I also caulk sealed those dumb-*** flood vents prior to painting. It was amazing how many critters found their way into the shop through those. The whole house and the block wall also got treated to a nice paint job. We are so happy to have the house and walls the same shade of color.

Haven't had the time to post lately but things are happening. The mini-split is now installed and operational. WOO-HOO!





My good friend and I built the new benchtop last weekend. Those are the old base cabinets holding the bench up. The new base cabinets are still on backorder from October 20th.......sigh...... It's not quite done but now I have a flat surface to put things on. I try to take something that was stored in the garage on every trip to the shop. We actually have room to park a car in there now!



Started plumbing for the sink. I'm so happy I took as many pictures as I did to locate the studs in the wall.







Hopefully today I can finish the water supply line to have running water. We'll see how ambitious I get.

Thanks Mike! We had a very good Christmas. My wife and I just got back from a visit to see my SIL in New Orleans who had a lengthy "to do" list. It was fun.

Thanks Rudi! So far the floor is holding up well. I have dragged and dropped many things on and across it with no issues so far. Fingers crossed.

So when we got back, I had the "itch" to finish that sink install.

Got the supply line plumbed in with a hose bib outside.


And got the fitting finished inside.


I cut out the countertop for the SS sink and caulked it in. Then I hung the tankless water heater and ran all of the supplies and drain.


And now I actually have running water!!!! WOO-FREAKIN-HOO!!!! And anther flat surface on which to lose things.


I still have to install the side splashes and install the toe kick board.

Next up is to run the electric to that tankless heater which surprisingly needs a 40 amp 240V supply and 8 gauge wires. Maybe I will get steam too?

EDIT: While I was working on this, the shop was a very comfortable 65°F (18°C). I never turned on the mini-split and it was a chilly 47°F (8°C) outside coming up from being 29°F (-1°C) in the morning. Man I love this spray foam insulation!

And today I achieved another milestone. Conduit is run and the Quincy is wired, operational, broke in and had an oil change. I am very inpressed with how quiet this compressor really is. If I had to make a guess, my old SpeedAire was three times louder.

Thanks Mike! I'm really liking this compressor so far. I was going to install the old regulator and filter combo to have working air but decided against it. Those units had 1/4" NPT fittings and in my opinion don't flow enough air for some of my air tools. I'm shopping for a new combo with coalescing/filtration/regulation but with 1/2" NPT fittings. I also plan to run 3/4" copper around the shop.

Small Update

Got the tankless water heater wired up and operational.

This is idle state showing set-point and incoming water temp.


This is in operation showing water temp out, current voltage, water flow and power being consumed.


This is soooooo nice!

In other news, I started running the 120V on the east side of the shop.


I also called the riggers and they are due out on 02/04 to move the lathe, tool box and Bridgeport.
