I got these amazingly bright T8 bulbs online and retrofit my existing fixtures. However, as the title states my remote garage door opens do not work now (if the lights are left one) I tried some of the other bulbs offered at HD and Lowe’s and are no where at nice. I was considering “trying” to extending the garage doors openers antenna outside the door. But I am thinking will not be far enough away from light fixtures. Anyone have any other ideas? Thank you in advance.

I've read in the past that you shouldn't replace the incandescents with LEDs in openers with integral lights as it will interfere with the remote signal, but had no idea that retrofit fluorescents in the vicinity of the opener would cause the same problem. I'd imagine RF emission isn't high on the list of concerns of many of the Chinese manufacturers of retrofit tubes, and it may vary widely among the various manufacturers.

I have FEIT LED 4 ft 'dual-strip' luminaires. They cause no issues with my two bellcrank Liftmaster OH garage door openers. However trying to use LED bulbs in the Liftmaster twin Edison bulb socket luminaires, which operate wirelessly with the Liftmaster opener, I did have issues, not unexpected as I read in the installation instructions not to use LED bulbs in the stand-alone Liftmaster luminaires operated by wireless [still a 120v plug-in for power to the luminaire, of course]. Returning to a filament Edison base bulb in each eliminated any issues with door operation or lights.

I think I would try to unplug them one at a time as suggested. Hopefully it's just one causing the problem. Then either move that one off to a corner somewhere or return it. A couple of years ago I had an LED light bulb mess up the picture on a TV in the same room. After swapping that bulb with one outdoors I've never had that problem again.

LED Lights are known sources of RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) often as the other posters have suggested, re orienting the antenna or moving either the LED or the receiving antenna will alleviate the problem.

Good Luck

Does any of you lights or equipment have a Feritte cores on the power cables?

I converted via ballast bypass to 8ft LED and had no issues with those. I then bought one of the 4ft stand alone LEDs to put over my work bench. That particular one caused a lot static in my radio reception. I cut out a Ferrite cores from some cable I had. I cut the power cord on my radio and put the ferrite core over it and looped the cord a few times then redid the electrical connections. The static was reduced significantly. Mostly eliminated except for one station still has some.

They sell Ferrite cores that you just snap on if you want to try without cutting up a cable. I think a garage door opener has a fairly thick cable though.

Thank you all for all responses! I was messing around with the lights this past weekend. I have four 8ft lights in the garage and it really does not matter which light is on I have the same negative result. It’s so crazy I cannot find any other bulbs that put out this much light. I am going to try extending the antenna this weekend but I have little hope.

No the fixtures are now just a bunch of 18 gauge wires and the tombstones.

I cannot really move the fixtures without redoing the wire and boxes in the ceiling. That is what Attracted me to retrofitting the existing lights. It’s a drywall ceiling, etc.

I tired the retro fit bulbs from HD and they do not have the same issue. However they really **** compared to one I stumped onto online.

And I bet if turn on an AM radio you will be amazed at the amount of noise you hear when you turn them on :( I did not look at at the specs but somewhere it should say they meet FCC spec for RFI emissions and I bet they dont. If you have any Amateur Radio operators close by they will hate you :)

Ya I did not know about a FCC rating before I ordered them. However the HD and Lowe’s have the FCC rating but they are at like half as bright.A0B7C8E2-029A-4565-A916-3ACD0E3EFF60.jpeg
