Just Traded up into snap on cordless from Milwaukee 😁

Video for those interested:

You made the right move in my opinion. Snap On's 14.4 line is hard to beat for what you're doing. I'd probably stick with Milwaukee's M18 line up if you ever need to add the larger impacts/tools.

Nice pics as always!

Is that nut grip set all 3/8" drive??? I bought mine a few years ago and think it's 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19. If there was a more complete set at the time I'm sure I would've bought it. I don't need anything above 19, but know I'm missing a few that you have . Oh well time to buy a few more .

On the stud pullers, I have a Taiwan generic set I bought ~20 yrs ago. If you try to pull a short stud with them, it will self destruct. And I know this because.... The stud needs to be about the same length, or obviously more, than the internal cylinders that grip the stud.

Got this set of Mayhew bearing race punches. Quality seems up there with the other Mayhew products I've been around, but the two largest punches are a little bent. I'm not sure if it will ultimately matter in any way, but its always kind of a bummer when you spring for the "nice" brand and there is a flaw.

Yes they are all 3/8 drive, this is the set https://palmac.net/koken-nut-gripper-10-piece-socket-set-rs3450m-10-3-8-square-drive-6-point/
Thanks for the tip on the stud pullers, I'll probably just keep using the double nut method and keep these for my collection.

It's the standard 3/8" ratchet from Tekton plus the Tekton screwdriver handle (USA). The HF ratchet is the same for less money but I spent the extra money for Tekton.

Also the 108 tooth ratchet in the picture is from the same manufacturer as the Tekton 90 tooth. It was $18 after 15% off.

BTJHP, did you change the handle yourself? The ones they show on their website have different handles.

Yes. The handle is the Tekton USA handle that's $4 on their site. The standard handle is too small on the 3/8" version. You can get the same ratchet for $15 at HF, if you can find it in stock.

I also have the 1/4" ratchet that's $8 at HF and the handle is much more proportional on it. I'm still thinking about changing it though.

Cool little set - where did you get it?

Grabbed it from an ebay seller in Louisiana when the seller shot me an offer of $1.00 + shipping.

Gotta love socket sets that cost less than the shipping!

in other news:

These "Steelcraft" catalogs arrived yesterday (along with more tools, of course) and they'll soon be available at International Tool Catalog Library

Just got my Malco Eagle Grips. Quality seems to be excellent, very smooth operation.

I'm not sure about the smooth polished chrome finish however. lots of times when I use locking pliers I’m trying to manage them with one hand and I’m thinking these may be kinda slippery.

Anyone found that to be a problem ? Well worth the money however.

No issues with the finish on my two pairs. Real easy cleanup when I'm done using them.

I have the Bluepoint version of that tool. Works great, except I always seem to go the wrong direction first.
yeah try and error :)
Would you mind measuring the length of the pads on that? I’m trying to figure out which of the Lang pad spreaders has the smaller pads, since I’ve already got the big Snap-on one. Thanks!

Black Friday sale at Gray Tools

I like the 1/4 flex head, has a spring loaded ball so it can lock at straight or 90 degrees.

Added some more 20v batteries. Wanted the 8ah for the leaf blower my son uses to “help” me when I’m using my Stihl. Also picked up a bit set and drill bit set on sale at Lowe’s for the truck box

Bought these at Harbor Freight yesterday. Honestly I’ve had a few of those hammers and they are really good. I still have them at home just I use them enough to have at home so I bought more for work. The reason I bought the 16oz from Blue Point is because it’s my most used one and I feel it was worth the money to have. I do plan on buying a dead blow and a 40oz Dead Blow Ball Peen from Snap-on I have the 32oz one already and love it. The reason I’ll go to Snap-on for those is because I consider those more consumable especially the dead blow so I want an easy warranty on them. But these I don’t see a reason to buy really fancy I just like a nice traditional wood handle hammer. Of course I got the guilt trip for buying them by the folks saying I don’t need them but I try not to let that bother me too bad. And I picked up a little knife too. Those things are .69 cents but worth every penny. I’ve got a few laying around. They are good to pull out of your pocket to cut a box open with not have to walk to your box or cart and get a cutter or knife or anything and they are good for small stuff too. Also renewed my ITC for $29.99.

Tomorrow I’m going to purchase the cart with drawers all the way down for the Black Friday sale. ITC can get it tomorrow and it’s $499 which is $200 off. Still haven’t decided the color to get everyone thinks I should get orange to match my box. I guess I’ll get whatever colors are left by 6pm when I get home and make it over there lol 😂. Hopefully I don’t have to settle for yellow or green. Of course I’ll be posting pictures of that too. Hopefully they will have them in stock and not have to be ordered. I might leave my card and keys to the truck with my dad and see if he can go get it for me he said he has no problem with me buying that. Guess he sees the box as a need and not the hammers lol.

Non-contact voltage sensors are a must-have if you do electrical, even if just a little bit.

Dumb question - what's the purpose of these?

I get that one needs to determine if the circuit is live. However one needs to contact the circuit to work on it, be it a pump/fan/outlet/etc. Thus couldn't you just use a meter and connect it as normal? The only use that comes to mind, is cutting a circuit in half, and adding a junction box in the center of a run of wire. The tool would prevent having to actually know what is on the circuit and additional disassembly to reach connections for traditional meter tests.

An electrician friend uses one for quick checks of a circuit, but I never got a good answer as to why. He did say he found that when the tool displayed incorrectly, it registered that voltage was present, when it was not. Better safe than sorry.

A meter or voltage tester would have to touch bare wires or terminals. A NCVT can detect voltage outside of the jacket/insulation. Its also audible so you can lay it on a hot wire or pushed in an outlet and it'll keep beeping until you go find a breaker or switch that kills the power to it.

Couple things this week. NOS Lufkin indicator. Needs to be cleaned and lubed. It has a 3 1/2" face but I have to reseat the crystal as it has warped over the years. A DiaSharp diamond stone and SO bogo deal.20211121_142846.jpg20211121_142401.jpg20211121_142309.jpg20211121_141357.jpg

Two new acquisitions for me. First is a set of used Vaco SAE nut drivers, $15. It’s missing the 7/16 driver so I’ll have to hunt one down, but otherwise they’re in great shape. Happy with that deal.

Second is a set of Canadian tire “Maximum” extra long ratcheting flex head wrenches. I believe these are made by Gearwrench. I know for sure they were in the past as all the Maximum ratcheting wrenches had Gearwrench branding on one side, though Maximum has done away with co-branding across the board recently. Come to think of it, all of the Maximum ratchets and ratcheting wrench products look identical to Gearwrench products.

They were on a Black Friday sale for $130, with a lifetime exchange warranty. Hard to go wrong with that!

Snap-on truck had lithium jump boxes on sale. I've been thinking of getting one for a long time, just to keep in my car

Got a 1/4 hex bit to 1/4 square drive adaptor to keep in my snappy ratcheting driver that I keep at home

Bought a cheap push-pin tool set on amazon after I had lost my pair of spring loaded pliers (on top). Bought red so they'd be harder to lose. Then I realized I had put them in the wrong drawer  So now I guess I have extras
