Is another retailer going to drop a battery tool line?

I am wondering if Home Depot is getting ready to drop its Ridgid 18V tool line. I have been very happy with mine for the last 10+ years but was hoping to see some new designs to keep up with Milwaukees ever growing selection? They don't seem to push the deals so much on Ridgid anymore.

A ratchet, a right angle drill and a right angle hex driver would be nice, I hate to start a new battery collection but the M12 line is looking pretty good.

Its hard to watch this dude........
Agreed.

And, as someone that owns damn near the full Ridgid 18v line, I'm tired of waiting. I've started investing into the M12 line, and fully intend to go M18 if I don't see anything new by Ridgid.

Specifically, I'd like a 3/8" ratchet. A right angle drill. A cordless 10" table saw. That first one was how I started scoping out the M12 line, BTW, and was my first M12 tool.

I doubt RIGID 18v is going away - it serves a lot of people very well.

It seems like RIGID is going to be the "trickle-down" line. I've got no issues with that, but it seems sandwiched between Ryobi as the bang-for-the-buck line and Milwaukee as the leadership line. I didn't want the 'tweener' line, which is why I went M12/M18 when I finally gave up on my C3 stuff. I guess I was lucky that I was stubbornly holding on and switched all at once (after over-analyzing what to switch to...).

Agree. I tried to like him, but the last video I watched was him unashamedly shilling Milwaukee tools, sold by his “sponsor, VGC Construction, who is now in the business of marketing tools, for cyber Monday.

Didn’t have the stomach to watch the whole thing, but it seems that he’s gone from a tool reviewer to a full on Milwaukee shill. I don’t trust anything he says.

He’s off my YouTube list of shows to watch.

It took me a long time of clicking things like "Hide This Video" or "Don't Show This Channel" to finally have him stop showing up in suggested videos.

I often wonder why TTI even bothers keeping Ridgid around. I kind of occupies the same space that the Ryobi HP line does and Ridgid just doesnt have the selection of tools that many other brands do.
If I were looking to get into cordless brand, Ridgid would probably be one of the last that I would consider. Even in the TTI stable, they just dont really compare to what you can get from Milwaukee or Ryobi and they dont even really compare to Craftsman in the SBD stable.
Id forget about Ridgid and go Milwaukee if you want the best or if you are on more of a budget Id consider Ryobi, Craftsman or Masterforce.

I dunno - retailers seem to want a good-->better-->best setup (Ryobi-->RIGID-->Milwaukee), and RIGID tends to market on stability and the warranty. The overlap serves folks who have adopted whatever platform to offer options.

Ultimately, I agree with you about Milwaukee - all the options I want are in that brand and the best of TTI is too. I've been extremely happy with every single tool I have (and I'm kinda picky...).

Why does nobody like Makita anymore?
Because Milwaukee seduced me with a 1,400 ft lb battery impact gun and I loved it so much I bought a whole bunch more of their junk.
My M18 Superhawg is awesome.
With the 12 ah battery the tools can work longer than I can.
No more battery powered Makita, DeWalt or Hitachi for me.

I still use corded Makita Skil saws and Hitachi pneumatic pistolas.
I've got a couple Hitachi framing guns with 1,000,000+ nails through them.
Probably several million. Used to buy nails by the pallet load.

They like buying made in China products produced by a Hong Kong based corporation.

Then they wave the Stars and Stripes and sing God Bless America.

Ridgid isn't going anywhere.

TTI makes Ridgid tools, but they don't own the brand - Home Depot does. Who knows if TTI would want three tiers in one store if they were all on equal footing, but Home Depot clearly sees value in it. TTI might prefer to push it's own brands, but they don't want Home Depot to contract with SBD for Ridgid tools either.

Ridgid is an odd duck. Sometimes they are incredible value. They often have peak performance specs at or near the big names, but sell for less money. They offer a lifetime service agreement - even on kit batteries now. Yet the cordless lineup is never really as broad or deep as the top competitors and they switch/discontinue tools much more rapidly.

I have cordless tools in a bunch of different colors, including orange. With that approach Ridgid is awesome because I'm not dependent on a tool coming out in orange. If I were contemplating it as my only brand though, I'd consider carefully what tools I would want. If it's mostly "core" tools, sure why not. If you want specialty stuff, best stick to red, yellow or a shade of blue.

I don't "not" like them, but nobody local to me seems to have many of them in stock ever. If I see anything it's just your basic drill / driver type tools. No stores around here seem to push them hard at all, and as far as online deals, I can find better deals in DeWalt, so that's why I went that route.

When performance is so good from almost every cordless brand, hard to go for one with less local support (and seemingly less variety in their lineup, although this might be just due to regional marketing).

I don't personally know anyone that uses Rigid, or Ryobi. They seem more like a very limited or occasional use home DIY guy cordless platform, for a guy that screws a fence board in or cuts a 2"x4" once in awhile.

Most of my closer friends are all in the "Trades" or have worked in a Trade at some point, I only see Yellow or Red in their garages or shops, and very rarely Makita.

I'm all for competition and innovation, but I don't see the point in buying a Rigid unless I needed to save that dollar, but I'd rather eat Top Raman for one day and buy something else if that was the case.

Looks like they maybe coming out with new 3/8 ratchet you can see it in one of the videos from the other guy that is with him. I hope so because my m12 3/8 is in the shop getting worked on have been using my old job max one in place of my m12 and it has been fine with the 18v motor. But it is getting pretty old now and if it broke don’t know what they would with the LSA.

Because I like Bosch better......lol. I really think that most folks wont go wrong with Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee, DeWalt, or similar. Some line are more extensive than others etc but Ive had nothing but oustanding luck with Bosch over the last 20 some years so I stick with them. Still cant stand VCG lol
