Looking to fill a second tool box.. opinions?

Hey all..
I have 2 areas in my shop I work in, with separate tool boxes, one that is fairly stocked and has all my Craftsman USA complete socket set, my other bay has my HF 44” with a newer basic craftsman set with missing sockets, a handful of screwdrivers, Pliers, etc and is seriously lacking.. I’m tired of walking to my other box to get what I need, I’m planning on working drawer by drawer to bring it up to par, and I my first step is finding a decent complete socket set..

I’ve been looking online for a complete set, but don’t want to buy a kit that’s half driver bits and a crappy hex key set to boost the total number count.. stupid… and as a non professional I don’t need, or want, to spend a grand or more for snappy or the like. Been looking around and spotted this..

Don’t have any Trekton, but heard they’re a decent.. I know, I could just fill the whole box up with HF tools and it would probably be sufficient for my needs, but I don’t mind spending more for nicer set.. as an example, I’m thinking all Channel lock brand for snips and pliers..

Any thoughts on this, or any suggestions on something else would be welcome.

On the lower priced end I have Tekton chrome sockets and Capri impact sockets. Either are hard to beat for the price.

On the more spendy but not horribly high cost this year I picked up some Koken mid lengths in metric and “new” in package but used Snap-On mids in standard, love them both. I use mid length sockets 80% of the time so I went nicer on those.

The Tekton is just as good as your USA craftsman quality wise and Made in Taiwan is much easier to stomach than China IMO.

You should also take a hard look at Tekton for your other needs like ratchets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.

eh their ratchets are not great nor are their screw drivers the wrenches and sockets are decent though

I would at least get the 8 pc hard handle screwdriver set for $25 from Tekton. They may not be Snap On but they certainly don't ****.

About 20 years ago, I had the same dilemma. I bought Craftsman, on sale, or used. Most of it was made in the US. No 1/2" drive anything. Well stocked with SAE and meric. Between $100-$150.

I have quite a bit of older USA made stuff from K-D, Allen, NAPA, Kobalt, Craftsman, Wright, and Proto. A lot of them are no longer available so I tend to use newer USA/Taiwan/Japan/Spain tools to hammer on.

Things like

Channellock/Carlyle combination wrenches
Channellock/Irega and Top adjustable wrenches
Grayvik hammers
Tekton screwdrivers
Tekton, SK11, Astro sockets
Wilde, Tsunoda and KTC pliers
Bondhus hex wrenches
Wilde pry bars

I think their complete socket sets are a hard deal to beat, all things considered. If you're using import tools now I doubt you would regret it. Cost/ease of purchase/ease of warranty/tool quality combination is right there with any of the mid range imports.
